Job Summary: Under limited supervision, performs basic professional accounting assignments requiring knowledge of accounting theory and principles.
Additional Department Summary: This position will assist the College of Engineering in administering post-award requirements for both externally and internally funded contracts and grants. Under general supervision, this position will perform a variety of specialized and technical accounting services following established procedures. Duties include but are not limited to tracking contract/grant expenditures, working with faculty to monitor progress towards grant completion, and providing regular status reports to principal investigators and the Director of Financial Affairs for the College. This position may post, balance and reconcile general ledger accounts and/or prepare statements, projections and analyses. This position works closely with the UA Office of Sponsored Programs (pre-award and post-award) and Procurement to ensure that all activities within awarded contracts and grant are in compliance with University, federal, state, and sponsor guidelines and requirements.
Required Department Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and four (4) years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, to include experience with contract and grant accounting; OR Associate's degree and two (2) years bookkeeping or accounting experience, to include experience with contract and grant accounting; OR Bachelor’s degree with some bookkeeping or accounting experience, to include experience with contract and grant accounting.
Skills and Knowledge: Effective oral and written communication skills as well as excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Self-motivated and able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively. Proficiency in advanced spreadsheet and database operations. Ability to utilize online financial systems (Banner and Cayuse). Ability to work with faculty and staff on diverse projects and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications: Preferred experience in an educational environment, specifically UA fund accounting and/or contract and grant administration experience and knowledge of UA's accounting and budget policies and procedures. Must have the ability to analyze and interpret complex data; and ability to demonstrate a high degree of self-motivation and directional initiative.
