The Sando Laboratory is a new addition to the Department of Pharmacology and Vanderbilt Brain Institute and is located on the seventh floor of Medical Research Building III. Our research is focused on elucidating the molecular principles underlying how distinct types of synaptic connections assemble into functional neural circuits in the mammalian brain, and how aberrations in neural circuitry underlie neurological disorders. The Research Assistant II will be a key personnel working directly on research projects aimed at advancing our understanding of synapse formation and neural circuit development, and will provide essential research support for the laboratory. This position requires knowledge of basic laboratory procedures, detailed record keeping, and standard molecular biology techniques.
The Research Assistant II will support and develop independent research projects in the laboratory, and is expected to be highly collaborative. Primary responsibilities will include general laboratory organization and support, maintenance of central laboratory databases, and laboratory mouse colony organization. Motivated individuals will have the opportunity to learn confocal and super-resolution microscopy techniques, electrophysiology, recombinant virus production and stereotactic injections, viral-mediated neural circuit tracing techniques, and laboratory mouse genetics and husbandry.
The Sando Laboratory employs contemporary and emerging methodologies in genetics and neuroscience to understand how neural circuits in the mammalian brain are wired by diverse synaptic connections. A major emphasis is placed on investigating principles of neuronal cell biology and molecular mechanisms. Our approach is broad and interdisciplinary and spans molecular and cellular biology, confocal and super-resolution microscopy, electrophysiology, and in vivo analysis of mouse models. The individual is also expected to collaborate with other laboratories at Vanderbilt University.
