The Business Analyst provides data, technical, and project support for admissions and recruitment processes in the Office of Admissions. Working at the direction of the Business Analyst 2, the Business Analyst will implement, maintain, and test (enrollment) systems; develop and enhance processes, and provide analysis of recruiting and admissions activities. In addition, the Business Analyst supports scholarship awarding for the Office of Admissions and is responsible for supporting and enhancing a multi-channel marketing & communications plan.
The Business Analyst will be responsible for translating technical information to non-technical staff, and creating regular and ad hoc reports that directly contribute to meeting institutional enrollment goals. The Business Analyst will assist in analyzing and supporting software applications that can enhance office operations and will also assist in special projects and tasks that will generate data and analytics related to new student recruitment, marketing, and student success.
RESPONSIBILITIES Data Operations and Reports (25%)
Configure and test vendor application systems;
Write and update scripts which transform data for loading and update CRM using bulk processing tools;
Document data-driven business processes and progress towards enrollment goal attainment;
Assist in procurement of prospective student information;
Develop and maintain reports that track results of marketing & recruitment activities;
Manage and reconcile error reports;
Draft and update user documentation and procedures.
Communication Plan Support (20%)
Generate and distribute marketing distribution lists in a timely manner;
Implement and test (QA) for distribution lists;
Analyze and share actionable insights with marketing team to inform future strategy;
Analyze content performance and make data-driven recommendations;
Create and update outbound calling campaigns;
Serve as a resource for quality assurance.
Confirmation Process Support (20%)
Test software and processes related to new freshman and transfer student confirmation and orientation;
Manage annual updates. Interface with Bulldog Resource Center staff and third-party vendor;
Oversee error reports and reconcile errors as needed;
Provide confirmation software technical/customer support for UMD staff, students, and legal agents.
Scholarship Awarding Support (15%)
At the direction of the Business Analyst 2 and/or the Director of Marketing & Operations;
Track scholarships for incoming students to ensure the optimal awarding of allocated and donor funds;
Analyze data, systems, and processes for improvement(s) in scholarship awarding;
Serve as the Office of Admissions point of contact for scholarship inquiries and appeals;
Update scholarship descriptions, awarding criteria, and scholarship letter templates to reflect Scholarship Committee policy changes;
Create and maintain queries for scholarship awarding process, award scholarships, and maintain scholarship communications.
Ongoing and New Technologies (10%)
Assist in the development of office and system procedures to support new applications and functionality;
Operate within the CRM user group to suggest, test, and document CRM improvements;
Coordinate annual update of online application by working with Business Analyst 2 and vendor(s).
Admissions Team (10%)
Participate as an integral staff member within the Office of Admissions;
Evaluate office information workflow to identify and advise Business Analyst 2 of changes to improve efficiencies;
Serve as a resource to campus committees when needed;
Assist with the implementation and inventory of computers and technology for staff;
Other duties as assigned.
A bachelor’s degree in a field related to the position; or a combination of related education and work experience in the areas of business or systems process analysis to equal four years;
Experience writing documentation, workflows, and procedures to address system and user needs.
Coursework in a discipline such as, but not limited to, mathematics, computer science, statistics, or a closely related field;
Minimum of one-year relevant experience in data analysis, report writing, information system analysis, and/or business process analysis;
Demonstrated meticulous attention to detail;
Strong analytical and project management skills, including a thorough understanding of how to interpret customer business needs and translate them into application and operational requirements;
Demonstrated interpersonal, teamwork, written, and graphic communication skills;
Ability to manage complex projects and balance competing priorities;
Experience writing SQL queries;
Ability to effectively analyze, manage schedules, and produce reports;
Knowledge of academic records, Campus Solutions/PeopleSoft student administration, or related student information system;
Knowledge of Salesforce CRM, digital marketing platforms, Google analytics or online marketing analytics;
Basic knowledge of relational databases

Previous experience in a higher education environment working with faculty, staff and/or students.
