Job Summary Seeking a highly motivated and experienced research associate to help build, validate, and implement a state-of-the-art robotic COVID test platform at Caltech for high throughput COVID surveillance testing. The successful candidate will participate in scientific assay development, technical data management, and operational support for the Caltech COVID testing laboratory, including assessing and maintaining quality control and reliable test assay workflow.
Provide assay development, assay quality control, and troubleshooting expertise.
Carry out real-world testing of COVID samples in manual and automated assay settings.
Oversee, execute, and manage tracking and submission of test data on a timely basis.
Assure and audit format compliance for data entry into scientific databases.
Oversee and manage processing of ordering requests, lab communication, and maintenance of office records.
Oversee and manage quality assurance and sourcing of consumable and reagent stocks.
Oversee and manage lab instrument and equipment maintenance and track instrument use.
Manage basic lab tasks such as buffer preparation and training and supervision of lab assistants/interns.
Manage lab safety compliance and training.
B.S. in biological, biochemical, or chemical sciences.
Minimum of 5 years of relevant lab experience.
Strong computer skills including familiarity with Excel, Excel formulas and assay data interpretation and visualization.
Strong communication skills (both oral and electronic) and organizational skills.
Problem solving and service oriented skills.
Strong willingness to learn new skills when needed.
Highly motivated, responsible and proactive working style.
Strong skills building and working in a cohesive lab team.
M.S in biological, biochemical, or chemical sciences.
6 or more years of experience, including familiarity with plate based biochemical, nucleic acid based or cell based assays.
Familiarity with automated liquid handling platforms and automated assay development.
Strong basic computer literacy including some basic programming skills, preferably VBA/VB.NET in the MS Excel context. Preferably experience with MS Power BI for spreadsheet data analysis and data visualization. Python scripting capabilities desirable.
