Department: MED-Transplant Center Salary/Grade: NEX/15
This position performs high complexity clinical lab procedures in support of the NMH transplant center. This position also performs initial or final review of assigned clinical results. Manages major projects including testing and validating of new clinical assays. Ensures lab compliance with all associated rules and regulations, including reviewing and signing off instrument and reagent quality control documentation per lab policy, review of quality assurance reports, and preparation for accreditation inspections. This position requires some on-call work on the weekends.
Performs final review of assigned clinical data per lab policy.
Coordinates and oversees multiple complex projects including interfacing with vendors, writing procedures and submitting validation packets for accreditation agency review.
Analyzes and interprets more complex clinical histocompatibility tests and orders revolutionary testing as necessary.
Reviews and signs off on release of documentation ensuring quality of laboratory instrumentation and reagents as per lab policy.
Generates special reports to aid in tracking and trending instrument and reagent performance.
Trains other senior lab staff including troubleshooting of complex procedures.
Serves as an expert resource for all staff in regard to specialized equipment handling and maintenance.
Laboratory performance demonstrating good judgment, conscientiousness, precision and accuracy.
Communicates with the transplant programs, lab staff and governmental agency (UNOS) to clarify and confirm testing orders in support of clinical workflow.
Maintains detailed records of results which may include collecting, extracting and entering data.
Interprets and/or presents results
Reviews results and revises protocols as necessary to ensure that testing objectives are attained.
Participates in continuing educational activities.
Additional responsibilities may be assigned in case of absence of supervisor to help ensure fluidity of workflow.
Tracks and summarizes lab supply expenses.
Verifies accuracy of invoices.
Orders and/or maintains inventory of reagent, and/or lab supplies.
Obtains sales quotes for lab equipment and supplies.
Oversees repair and maintenance of all specific lab equipment.
Ensures that lab supplies are ready and available when necessary.
Works with supervisor in training of students, other technologists or staff.
Completes other duties as assigned
Successful completion of a full 4-year courses of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in science; or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
Five years of experience in the field of molecular biology and/or histocompatibility testing or related is required.
Experience with standard clinical laboratory operating procedures.
Experience in training new technologists.
ABHI Histocompatibility technologist (CHT) or specialist (CHS) certification.
Experience in data analysis and reporting.
