Susan D. Flynn Oncology Student Nursing Fellowship Program 2021
Boston Children's Hospital is proud to offer an outstanding opportunity for nursing students who have a passion for pediatrics and oncology care. The Susan D. Flynn Oncology Nursing Fellowship Program was created with the intent of developing the next generation of oncology nurses. The Fellowship includes a comprehensive scope of direct observational and learning experiences. Students will have exposure to oncology nursing within the context of a pediatric hospital setting. They will learn about the roles and responsibilities of a pediatric oncology nurse and discover possible career opportunities.
Additionally, through this experience nursing students will also be able to learn about the following:
Key policies, procedures, plans of care and education for pediatric medical/surgical oncology patients
Clinical Research & Clinical Trials
Palliative Care (resources, services, benefits)
Patient & Family Support Programs
Various Internal Oncology-Related Forums As part of this learning/development experience the Fellows will complete an evidence-based practice project addressing some aspect of pediatric oncology nursing. This project will be presented to oncology nurses and nursing leadership at a formal Fellowship closing ceremony during the last week of the program.
The program will span nine weeks from June through August of 2021. It will be centered within our pediatric oncology inpatient and outpatient care units at Boston Children's Hospital.
Based on a competitive application and selection process, t his Fellowship is open to two rising seniors from an accredited BSN program located in the Boston area.
