Position Overview: This is a full-time, nine-month position in the Department of Family Social Science in the College of Education and Human Development, University of Minnesota, TC. This position will start in Fall 2021 for the 21-22 academic year. This position is focused on working with students who are pursuing a Masters of Family Education, Parent and Family Education Teaching License or Parent Education Certificate in the Parent and Family Education program. Our fully on-line program draws students from all over Minnesota as well as other states and countries. We seek someone who has demonstrated excellence in teaching and program management--able to teach on-line graduate level courses, serve as the licensure program lead, and interim Director of the Parent and Family Education Program.
Teach at a minimum 4 three-credit on-line courses during the academic year
Coordinate and maintain online courses including keeping up Canvas sites by revising and updating course websites for fall and spring course offerings.
Grade student materials, including assignments, papers and final projects; and calculate and submit grades.
Advise Masters of Education Students
Participate in annual reviews of advisees, evaluate timely progress, and progress towards licensure requirements.
Participate in M.Ed. (Masters of education) student committees.
Program Leadership (50%)
License Program Lead (LPL)
Serve as Parent and Family Education License Program Lead including
Oversee completion of all reporting required for CEHD Teacher Preparation areas, in coordination with the CEHD Office of Teacher Education. (e.g. PERCA review, teacher licensing policy, documentation of Content Standards and Standards of Effective Practice)
Complete and provide OTE with required forms for licensure program accreditation procedures (e.g., state standards rubrics, signature assessments, student data, course syllabi, program improvement plans, etc.).
Represent the program at meetings and events planned by CEHD Office of Teacher Education (OTE)
Provide official communication on behalf of the program for students and program graduates as needed (e.g., documentation of program completion, documentation to school districts).
Maintain relationships with Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) program Coordinators in Minnesota School Districts and provide outreach about the license program and MEd as a recruitment strategy.
Interim Program Director
Participate in FSOS Leadership Team meetings, providing advice as program director to FSOS leadership, provide information regarding program and student progress and areas of need
Represent the Parent and Family Education program at faculty meetings.
Collaborate with the Parent and Family Education program team, department, college, and University personnel on program and course development, marketing, student recruitment, admissions, student data, instructor contracts, program evaluation and alumni relations.
Develop and implement Parent and Family Education program policies in collaboration with FSOS leadership, CEHD license/Office of Teacher Education procedures and University graduate school.
Review MEd, license and certificate curriculum and suggest changes to help meet educational and professional development outcomes.
Assist in the creation, execution and oversight of funding and financial support opportunities for family education (MEd) and parenting education (license, certificate) students.
Assist departmental leadership and staff with hiring instructors or faculty with duties specific to the Parent and Family Education program.
Consult on matters of student conduct, performance or grievance with instructors of Parent Education courses, the parent education license placement coordinator and other faculty or staff with students seeking the MEd, parent education teaching license or parent education certificate. Represent the program as needed at department, college or professional meetings to resolve student cases as needed.
Provide limited service to the department, college, and University as a representative of the Parent and Family Education program.
Act as a liaison for the Parent and Family Education program with other communities of interest.
Attend/represent the program at professional association meetings (e.g., NCFR, MNAFEE, AERA, SRCD) --with no expectations of engaging in research or making presentations.
Masters in Parent and Family Education, Family Social Science, Human Development & Family Studies, or closely related field
Holds a Minnesota teaching license in Parent and Family Education (current or expired)
Three years or more of teaching experience as a parent educator in Minnesota’s Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent time management, attention to detail, organization, and problem solving skills
Demonstrated ability to work with and support diverse learners
Demonstrated ability to work independently, flexibly, and unsupervised in a changing work environment
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively
Higher Education teaching experience
On-line teaching experience
Doctorate in Family Education, Family Studies, Human Development, or closely related field
