The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Genetics, Birth Defects and Metabolism at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago seeks a full-time investigator at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor to be the Division Head of Pediatric Genetics, Birth Defects and Metabolism. Tenure status will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
The Division totals 3 attending physicians, 5 Advanced Practice Providers (APNs and PAs), 19 Genetic Counselors, 1 Registered Nurse, 3 Metabolic Dietitians, a Diet Technician and a Social Worker. It maintains a small inpatient service and inpatient Consult Service. The Division has outpatient programs for General Genetics, Genetic Counseling, PKU, Intellectual Disability, and Connective Tissue Disorders, and multidisciplinary clinics for 22q Deletion, Neurofibromatosis, Marfan syndrome, Leukodystrophies and Skeletal Dysplasia. The genetic counseling staff participate in the clinical programs of other divisions, including Epilepsy, Neuromuscular Disorders, Cardiomyopathy, Electrophysiology, Ophthalmology, Oncology, Cancer Predisposition, and Disorders of Sexual Development. The Division also supervises the Biochemical Genetics and Cytogenetics laboratories, works closely with the Molecular Diagnostics laboratory, and co-directs the Genetic Testing and Counseling Support Center.
Qualified candidates must hold an MD or MD/PhD degree, and must be licensed or eligible for an Illinois medical license. Board Certification in Pediatrics and Clinical Genetics is required. The desirable candidate will be at an Associate Professor level or higher. Demonstrated relevant experience in a clinical/research leadership or administrative role in Genetics at a nationally ranked top-tier Department of Pediatrics. Candidates that possess clinical expertise and research experience in the field of Genetics or related areas. Demonstrated ability to provide leadership of a vibrant Genetics division or program, including medical education, research, child advocacy, and patient care. A proven ability to mentor both junior and senior faculty, in addition to having a collaborative and visionary leadership style.
