Medical Interpreter II's independently preform medical general interpreting/translation for the patient care staff, patients and their families. Assesses and monitors patient's understanding of the information conveyed and keeps physicians/nurses informed as to the level of that understanding. Suggests referrals to medical staff, clinical social workers, chaplains, patient services representatives.
Accurately conveys information between patient and provider. Maintains confidentiality, impartiality, professional integrity, and abides by code of interpreters ethics. Ensures that the patient understands the message conveyed. Manages the flow of communication to maintain accuracy and to build rapport between the provider and the patient. Translates discharge instructions. Records services provided in a daily activity report. Performs related duties as assigned.
Translates text accurately and completely applying a thorough knowledge of languages including recent vocabulary, new technical terms and slang. Completes necessary paperwork in a timely fashion. Reports problems or conflicts to the supervisors. Attends meetings as required. Position serves in an expert role and provides subject matter expertise and mentoring to medical interpreter 1's. Serves as a lead role on a rotational and needed basis.
Completion of independent medical interpreter school or program.
Certification from an independent medical interpreter school or program.
Four (4) years at the Med Interpreter 1 level.
Bilingual in both Spanish and English.
Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
