The Clinical Assistant Professor/Clinical Associate Professor will serve as assistant medical director or medical director of the Blood Bank/Transfusion Medicine Service, depending on rank and experience. This individual will also participate in the general Clinical Pathology Service and in the teaching and research missions of the Department.
The Transfusion service includes the largest blood bank in Suffolk County, an active donor room, and a busy apheresis program that supports the Oncology Service, the Renal Transplant Service, and the Neurology Service. This individual will also be a member of the general Clinical Pathology service. The candidate will participate in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows and will be expected to engage in scholarly activities involving clinical, translational, or basic research. Academic rank at the Stony Brook University School of Medicine will be commensurate with experience and academic record.
Required Qualifications: M.D. or equivalent. New York State medical license (or eligibility). American Board of Pathology (ABP) Certification in Clinical Pathology. ABP certification in Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine OR completion of an accredited Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine fellowship, OR currently enrolled in an accredited Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine fellowship. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications: 1-2 years of experience as an attending physician in Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine. 1-2 years of experience in clinical apheresis. Demonstration of scholarly capability/research experience and teaching experience.
