The Syntax laboratory in the Program in Psychology, Division of Science, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a postdoctoral associate to work on the representations and processes underlying the human cognitive capacity for complex syntax.
The successful applicant will design, construct, and analyze projects investigating the representations of syntactic structures and the processes of syntactic structure building during sentence processing. The successful applicant will leverage multiple techniques from the field of experimental syntax, including acceptability judgment methods, corpus methods, and electrophysiological methods (EEG and MEG). The candidate will also be responsible for administrative tasks related to their research projects. The candidate will work in a multidisciplinary environment consisting of PhD-level scientists, graduate students, and undergraduate students.
Applicants must have a PhD in linguistics or related field with a specialization in syntax or experimental syntax. Applicants must have advanced training in both acceptability judgment methods and electrophysiological methods (EEG and/or MEG) as used in experimental syntax. Applicants must also have extensive experience with one or more of the following languages for scientific computing: R, Matlab, or Python. Research experience in the languages of current focus in the lab is a plus, including English, Italian, Korean, and Russian.
