The Stanford Center for Professional Development (SCPD) is looking for a motivated and talented individual to join our Instructional Design team. We are a highly collaborative team, working with Stanford faculty and instructors to create effective learning experiences for a wide range of credit-bearing and professional education courses and programs.
SCPD is housed in the School of Engineering, but we collaborate with all seven university schools to design, develop, and deliver educational programs.

The Stanford Center for Professional Development is a leader in global, online and extended education. Established in 1995, we are located on the Stanford University campus and work with Stanford faculty, departments, schools, and centers to design and deliver engaging, high-quality online, in-person, and blended learning experiences to both matriculated students and a global audience of learners.
SCPD operates and manages Stanford Online, Stanford's online learning provider, and provides access to credit-bearing courses, certificates and degrees; professional education; group and custom programs, and free and open access content. We also operate and manage a number of technology-rich classrooms and studios as well as a variety of educational technology tools and platforms. We support Stanford teaching teams in the utilization of different pedagogical approaches and technologies to improve faculty impact and learner outcomes. SCPD increases access to Stanford teaching and research and fosters a global community of learners, industry leaders, and Stanford faculty & instructors.
The Learning Designer/Developer reports to the Director of Instructional Design and operates both independently and in multidisciplinary teams to design and develop learning solutions for academic and professional education programs at SCPD. The Learning Designer/Developer works with instructors to design and develop online courses; helps optimize and improve on-platform learning experiences; and contributes to the development of standards for online and instructor-led course development, participant and instructor materials, online performance support solutions, and learning evaluation.
Design and develop course content, instructor and participant materials, including performance support materials.
Implement, evaluate and maintain learning solutions.
Perform analysis of learning and business needs. Work with Stanford faculty and SCPD colleagues to understand the learning goals for new professional education courses and learning experiences.
Proactively consult with subject matter experts to identify and formulate learning objectives and content.
Design learning and performance support solutions.
Share best practices through cross campus collaboration and instructional design community.
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated effectiveness in consulting with business partners and subject matter experts to assess learning needs and recommend sound solutions.
Demonstrated proficiency in applying instructional design theory, models, and best practices.
Demonstrated proficiency using instructional design tools such as learning project plans, design documents, learning hierarchies, storyboards, prototypes, etc.
Ability to clearly and succinctly convey learning content in a manner that engages learners and improves retention rates.
Demonstrated application of adult learning principles and methods.
Demonstrated proficiency and experience in industry standard tools such as authoring tools, digital, graphics media, audio, animation and video production tools to create impactful courses.
Demonstrated ability to evaluate the effectiveness of learning materials.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently.
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
Ability to work independently and use initiative to solve problems
Demonstrated ability to combine content-centered (Instructional Design) and human-centered (UX) approaches to develop highly engaging online learning experiences
Experience using Moodle or a similar Learning Management System
Familiarity with educational delivery in a commercial context
Certifications and Licenses:
Frequently stand/walk, sit, use a computer; use a telephone, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
Occasionally reach/work above shoulders, twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp forcefully, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds, write by hand, sort/file paperwork.
Rarely kneel/crawl, operate foot and/or hand controls.
