The Department of English at East Carolina University (http://english.ecu.edu) is seeking to fill two positions with the title of Teaching Instructor or Teaching Assistant Professor (depending upon qualifications) specializing in composition to begin August 16, 2021. These full-time, non-tenure-track positions are for the fall and spring semesters of the 2021-2022 academic year only, with the possibility of subsequent appointments. The full-time teaching load is typically four courses per semester. Teaching will consist of face-to-face courses, with the possibility that some online courses may be assigned, depending on department and university need. Depending upon a candidate's credentials, as well as the needs in the department, the Chair may assign other courses besides composition. Service to the university, community, and profession is expected. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications, and full- time positions include benefits. Minimum qualifications for appointment as Teaching Instructor include an MA in English or a related field, including but not limited to Rhetoric/Composition, Writing Studies, or Technical Communication. A PhD or MFA in English or a related field, including but not limited to Rhetoric/Composition, Writing Studies, or Technical Communication, is required for an appointment as a Teaching Assistant Professor. Degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions. Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of and experience in teaching courses in first-year writing and writing about the disciplines.
