UWM FINANCE TRANSFORMATION is seeking a a Limited Term Appointment - ACCOUNTING BUSINESS ANALYST to play a key role in the implementation of an enterprise-wide Finance and Supply Chain system, and the modernization of related business processes.
The UW Finance Transformation Program (UWFT) is a $270M initiative to transform the University’s financial systems and processes, including academic, administrative, and healthcare. The IT scope of UWFT includes replacement of legacy core financial systems with a SaaS solution (Workday) and rationalization of distributed financial systems, reporting, and integrations across hundreds of units. UWFT will fundamentally change the processes and tools that the University employs to track, spend, collect, manage, and report University finances in excess of $7B in annual revenues, resulting in more timely and actionable information for leadership.
The ACCOUNTING BUSINESS ANALYST - (BA) will work in partnership with the Design PM and Accounting/Finance subject matter experts to evaluate source GL accounts for translation to the new Workday Foundation Data Model (FDM) and assist in development of the new Workday data model.
The Workday FDM includes chart of account elements and additional financial dimensions. The BA will assist in reconciliation between multiple legacy and future state general ledgers. The BA will be a key project team member and is responsible to facilitate meetings, document requirements and user stories, support testing program, and help to identify and manage issues and risks.
The successful candidate will support UW Medicine Accounting operations to support the UWFT initiative with minimal disruption to the service or quality by supporting business process redevelopment. The resource will provide guidance and support to operational subject matter experts as part of this large program. This includes but is not limited to supporting business process design, issue / risk communication and scalation, supporting development of recommended solutions, and collaborating on analytic tasks and execution.
The UW has an existing Workday platform, utilizing the HCM/Payroll/Benefits modules. This includes a backend infrastructure around security, access, and report development. The UWFT program will be responsible for implementing new financial modules that need to be integrated into the existing platform and will also need to include significant new functionality for finance. The new modules are scheduled to go live on July 1, 2022.
Work with data owners to collect, organize, and analyze multiple legacy systems’ chart of account elements, statistical accounts, and other related accounting values
Develop and maintain cross walk documentation for chart of account elements
Maintain the integrity of the project data over the life of the project
FACILITATION AND CONSULTATION
Assist in the development of data analysis summaries and visualizations in support of a wide range of working sessions
Facilitate working sessions with a wide range of stakeholders, subject matter experts, and project staff
Support team members to develop and execute test scripts
Provide FDM and crosswalk data subject matter expertise to technical teams as needed
Capture and document requirements and user stories
Assist the project team to identify and manage issues and risks through their lifecycle

Bachelor's degree in Business or related degree
4 to 5 years experience:
Minimum of four years of experience performing complex work in business analysis
Experience designing, developing, optimizing, or analyzing chart of accounts
Experience implementing new tools and processes with Accounting and Finance teams
Experience working with a wide range of data collection, analysis, and visualization tools
Demonstrated collaboration skills with colleagues at all levels and across different organizations
Demonstrated ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
Experience facilitating meetings, constructively addressing input and criticism, and resolving conflicts
Ability to present complex technical material to non-technical audiences in an approachable way
Able to understand and communicate business relevance to management / leadership teams
Equivalent education and experience may be substituted for requirements
Experience working in a healthcare or academic medical center environment
Experience working on technology projects supporting business needs through analysis and support.
Specific project experience with Workday or other ERP system implementations as a business or system analyst
