This role supports faculty and staff at McCormick School of Engineering & Applied Science, ensuring successful installation and on-going use of workplace endpoint technology within complex environments.
Evaluates new technologies within existing environments. Manages medium to large projects, working closely with peers and users to deliver optimum service. Contributes to defining and implementing policies, procedures, and standards and ensures their conformance with information systems goals and procedures. Monitors and troubleshoots complex technical problems utilizing hardware and software testing tools and techniques. Provides leadership as technical resource to users and team.
This position does support of mostly Linux based systems and infrastructure.
Please note: As a primarily systems administration positon that involves critical infrastructure support, there will occasionally be times when the occupant of this position will be required to work outside of normal business hours or on weekends in order to complete some time-dependent tasks.
Authors Scopes of Work for medium to large sized projects
Manages and coordinates projects collaboratively with internal/external clients utilizing the IT unit's systems to meet specific client goals.
Creates project plans, testing, implementation, and evaluation of system.
Mentors, trains and develops junior staff.
Coordinates training of users.
As part of a team, administers Linux infrastructure servers and user endpoints.
Other duties as assigned.
Coordinates projects partnering with users to deliver optimum service in regard to installation and maintenance of workplace endpoint technology.
Tests, implements, and evaluates systems and service results.
Provides an advanced level of troubleshooting support in response to complex problems, questions and inquiries that have been escalated by junior staff.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Associate's degree or 1 year equivalent experience.
3 years' experience in consulting, project management, training, technical support, or user service, in an information technology environment or similar.
Work history demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility and leadership.
Experience as both an end-user and administrator in service areas such as user support, desktop support, help desk management, and documentation or similar.

Confidence in Ubuntu server and desktop administration, DNS & DHCP management, practical virtualization technology, public key encryption, data backups systems, shell script programming.
Documentation experience for institutional memory and user & team training.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Ability to quickly and competently acquire and apply new skills as needed.
Experience configuring and managing Linux servers and desktops.
Record of properly setting up commercial SSL certificates on Apache web servers, especially on Virtual Hosts.
2 years of senior level server and desktop Linux systems administration experience.
Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)
Experience with docker and portainer. Kubernetes a plus.
Experience with Infoblox, Juniper SRX firewalls, CrashPlan Pro (or other) cloud backups system, WebDAV configuration, CertBot, CUDA, LDAP.
Python, PHP, perl programming a plus.
Experience using a ticket management system to track requests
