The Program Manager position will be in support of the Biosciences Initiative-funded Single Cell Spatial Analysis Program (SCSAP). The Program Manager will efficiently oversee and coordinate the Program Director’s and Leadership’s visions and the program’s goals, initiatives and strategies. The position requires the ability to represent the program among many different stakeholders in a highly professional manner; the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.
The Program Manager must possess the ability to independently and collaboratively identify and communicate opportunities, metrics, and challenges to the Program and act on them in a timely fashion. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent organizational and communication skills and a desire to work in partnership with the Program’s faculty leaders.
The Single Cell Spatial Analysis Program The SCSAP is funded by the University of Michigan Biosciences Initiative Program. The SCSAP’s goals are to enhance single cell analytics and tissue-based spatial analytics at the University of Michigan. The SCSAP leadership consists of 6 faculty members from among the Medical School, College of Engineering and School of Public Health. SCSAP activities include faculty recruitment in collaboration with University departments; providing scientific core services and technical expertise in the single cell analytic and spatial analytic spaces; and building community through providing pilot project grants; seminars, symposia and other activities. The successful candidate will become a critical administrative member of the dynamic SCSAP and have the opportunity to contribute towards program direction and initiatives.
Event and Meeting Management and Community Building:
Coordinate with administrative support to identify meeting dates.
Coordinate SCSAP-sponsored funding opportunities: coordinate requests for proposals with other University of Michigan entities, coordinate review panels for pilot projects.
Facilitate networking opportunities for Program members.
Maintain a strong positive relationship with upper-level UM administration and stake holders (Deans, Institutes, Chairs).
Organize and prepare background material for leadership meetings.
Follow up on decisions and other assignments that result from meetings.
Monitor progress of assignments to ensure timely completion.
Coordinate activities with recruiting departments.
Develop Internal and External Communications to Build SCSAP’s Visibility and Utility:
Represent Program in professional correspondence and interactions.
Contribute to website development and maintenance and other social media presences.
In collaboration with Program leadership, craft correspondence and create presentations, newsletters (internal and external) and annual reports for leadership and other stakeholders with details on productivity, capacity and impact, graphs, charts and other representative figures for slide decks and annual reporting and budget narrative.
Work with fiscal administrator to ensure fiscal responsibility.
Ensure budgeting and expenses are accurate.
Summarize fiscal data into charts.
Funding and Development:
Identify funding opportunities for the Program and members.
Interact with potential donors.
Identify fund matching opportunities.
Work with program leadership to prepare competitive funding applications.
Oversee administrative aspects of special projects as given by Director.
Track productivity of Program members (manuscripts and grants).
A Bachelor’s degree in biomedical/life sciences.
2 or more years in previous program management experience.
Proficient use of computers including Microsoft Office
Outstanding oral and written communication skills
Excellent interpersonal skills; both understanding and inspiring.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Can meet deadlines
Excellent attendance record.
Ability to act independently once direction is provided.
A Master’s degree in biomedicine or life sciences
Knowledge of the University’s procedures and policies
Experience in scientific publications and grant writing
Public relations experience
