The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) at Iowa State University is seeking a professional to lead the LAS grant support team (LASERS). The LASERS team provides diverse pre-award services, including meeting with new faculty and assisting with award transfers; assisting researchers to interpret proposal announcements; assisting individuals and teams with the development of grant budgets, and working with subcontractors to define project scope and to coordinate pre-award budget preparation.
This position will supervise four professional and scientific staff and will report to the associate dean for research. In partnership with the college finance team, this position will oversee the review and approval of 400 Goldsheets and Cardinal Sheets per year.Â This position will onboard and train new LASERS team members, track proposal support timelines and metrics, balance workloads within the team, develop reports on proposal submission and success, and be attentive to best practices in performance management and professional development.Â This position will represent the college in grant coordinator meetings and will collaborate with other service units on campus to support grant-funded research.Â Â
The successful candidate will possess strong organizational and communication skills. This position will require flexibility on occasion to meet sponsor deadlines. All staff members are expected to interact collegially and maintain the highest standards of integrity and ethical behavior.Â
Example of Duties â¢ Possesses signature authority for legally binding contracts and grants with project sponsors. â¢ Reviews terms and conditions of contracts and grants proposed by external funding agencies. â¢ Negotiates contract language. â¢ Serves as a resource to the University contracts and grant administrators. â¢ Interprets terms and conditions of award documents. â¢ Prepares, negotiates and executes subcontracts. â¢ Reviews proposals to confirm budgets and ensure compliance. â¢ Supervises professional and support staff for grant and contract administration.
