Summary of Duties:
The Grounds and Nursery Services Specialist 4 will perform and lead assigned personnel in a variety of skilled duties to maintain safe, clean and attractive grounds on the WSU Pullman Campus to include litter control, turf maintenance, plant bedding installation and maintenance, tree planting, pruning and removal and the operations, maintenance and installation of computerized automatic irrigation systems. This person will perform and lead others in the performance of snow and ice control operations. Other duties include, but are not limited to: overseeing the maintenance and repair of shop equipment and vehicles; overseeing the shop safety program; performing recurring area audits for service levels, disease and pest damage. This person will make recommendations for turf, plant, and tree installation, removal and replacement.
Two to three years of experience in gardening, plant care, landscape construction and grounds maintenance OR equivalent education/experience.
Demonstrated experience working with equipment required for grounds maintenance activities; variety of hand and motorized tools such as, not limited to; pruners, loppers, shovels, rakes, hoes, mowers, blowers, edgers, litter picker, chainsaw, trimmers, string trimmer and sprayers.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including early mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed and work in all weather conditions.
Possession of, or ability to obtain by time of hire, a valid, driver's license.
Possession of, or ability to obtain by the time of hire a valid, Public Applicators Pesticide license.
Ability to work collaboratively across work groups in order to deliver positive outcomes.
One year of lead or supervisory experience.
Possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) endorsement.
Must be able to work and create a harmonious work environment.
Experience with Aim Work Management and Workday Systems.
Demonstrated experience working with computerized based business information systems and experience with MS Word and Excel.
Demonstrated experience working with computerized irrigation systems and personal computers used to control computerized irrigation software programs.
A professionally recognized certification in grounds maintenance (National Association for Landscape Professionals, Professional Grounds Maintenance Society, International Society of Arboriculture, etc.).
This position has been designated by the department to require a background check.
