Dept Marketing Statement
The Psychology Department presently has 29 academic FTE, an administrative staff of eight, and makes several temporary academic staff appointments each year. Psychology presently has over 1900 undergraduate declared and proposed in the Cognitive Science and Psychology majors and 69 Psychology PhD graduate students. The Psychology Department Faculty and Staff are all currently housed in Social Sciences 2, College 10. The undergraduate advising team consists of the Undergraduate Program Coordinator/Assistant manager position and two full-time undergraduate advisors.

Job Summary

Applies skills as a seasoned, experienced academic adviser and curriculum manager. The Undergraduate Program Coordinator/Assistant Manager has full programmatic responsibility for the administration of the Psychology Undergraduate Advising Program. The position will oversee all aspects of undergraduate curriculum and enrollment coordination, including updating the general catalog and departmental enrollment procedures. This position will be the undergraduate advising team lead and directly supervise the two undergraduate advisors in the department.

Serves as the main staff contact for faculty and lecturers in regards to undergraduate student and curriculum issues and serves on the Committee on Undergraduate Affairs led by the Psychology Department Vice Chair. Advocates student issues, recommends solutions to progression and requirement issues. Provides advice to students on the full range of requirements for a department with two majors and a wide variety of course requirements. Advises department on complex curricular issues and recommends courses of action when new courses, programs are introduced.

Salary Information: Salary Range: $64,000 - $70,000. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.

Job Duties
50% Undergraduate Student Advising

Supervises two staff undergraduate advisors at the Student Academic Advisor 2 level. Leads team meetings, assigns tasks, gives feedback and coordinates recruitment of any vacancies.
In collaboration with the department manger and chair, ensure student's progress through course sequences, avoid conflicts, and ensure compliance with organization-wide policies.
Collaborate with Admissions to prepare and participate in campus wide advising events such as: Summer and Fall Orientations, Preview Day, and Spring Spotlight. Oversee articulation requests and transfer student appeals. Advises on complex transfers from other institutions such as those in the midst of advanced degree completion and coursework in other programs.
Evaluates and advises students in petitions for exceptions to departmental requirements.
Advises on special eligibility requirements such as Honors programs / fellowships / scholarships.
Oversees quarterly graduation processing. Confirms that students have met requirements for degree completion when there are no clear precedents or articulations, such as interdisciplinary programs or when transfer work is involved.

15% Undergraduate Program Coordination

Oversee all aspects of the undergraduate program including:
Utilizing extensive knowledge of course content, facilitates new course approval and curriculum revisions through interaction with the Coordination of College Policy, Academic Senate, or similar organization.
Oversees and coordinates the annual updating, revision, and submission of the undergraduate Cognitive Science and Psychology section of the UCSC Catalog.
Advises department on complex curricular issues and recommends courses of action when new courses, programs are introduced.
Oversees and coordinates undergraduate awards, graduation processing and department honors.

20% Quarterly Enrollment Coordination

Coordinate course gating and course enrollment limits
Oversee senior seminar permission code process including surveying students and distributing permission codes.
Oversee majors permission code process including surveying students and distributing permission codes.
Oversee transfer student transcript evaluation and distributing course enrollment information to these incoming students.

15% Committee on Undergraduate Affairs and Faculty Advisement

Advocate student interests; recommend academic policies and procedures both to CUA/Committee on Undergraduate Affairs, Department Chair and Division.
Advises department on complex curricular issues and recommends courses of action when new courses, programs are introduced.
Advises new and continuing instructors on departmental and university policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Thorough knowledge of common computer application programs.
Thorough knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving.
Abilities in problem identification, reasoning, ability to develop original ideas to solve problems.
Ability to multi-task.
Strong verbal communication skills, including active listening.
Strong written communication skills.
Proven communication and interpersonal skills, with a broad range of constituents and with individuals and large groups from diverse backgrounds.
Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment and discretion with confidential matters.
