Job Description:

The Associate Dean of Academic and Student Affairs is a front-line leader of the campus. As a member of the Academic/Student Affairs Leadership Team, the associate dean is a facilitating link among faculty members, staff, students, the President's Cabinet, the academic deans, dean of student affairs, and external constituencies. All activities and roles of the Associate Dean aim at furthering the best interests of M State students and helping the college achieve its goals, mission, and vision.

Associate Deans play four essential roles, serving as:
1.Academic leaders of faculty and programs;
2.Representatives of faculty and programs;
3.Leadership and supervision for campus student affairs professionals;
4.Managers of college resources.

The Associate Dean is responsible for promoting academic, administrative, and fiscal leadership in accordance with the Minnesota State Community and Technical College strategic and academic plans and for exercising holistic judgment when executing the duties of this position.

A major performance standard of this position will be maintaining the highest quality academic and student affairs standards. This position involves significant discretion and substantial involvement in the development, interpretation and implementation of Minnesota State and M State policy.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage credit and hourly course/program offerings.

  • General Administrative Duties.
  • Enforce and implement equal opportunity and affirmative action policies, procedures, and programs as appropriate to academic leadership.

    Required Qualifications:

    Education:

  • Master's Degree required
    Knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform duties and responsibilities:
  • Highly effective communication skills.
  • Thorough understanding of a regional approach to building and delivering higher education.
  • Ability to develop, implement and monitor long and short-term plans.
  • Knowledge of equitable and inclusive teaching and learning methodologies.
  • Experience assessing varied systems that promote learning and delivery of exceptional customer service.
  • Knowledge of liberal arts, transfer, career and technical education curriculum.
  • Willing to take risks and provide visionary plans for growth.
  • Desire and ability to effect change.
  • Knowledge of course and program outcomes and assessment models.
  • Knowledge and experience in managing functions and employees in registration, enrollment management, advising, student activities, Student Government Association, student due process procedures, multicultural services, persistence and completion, disability services, tutoring services, career services, financial aid, social work and orientation and placement.
  • Knowledge and experience in academic/student policies, developmental theory, and procedures which lead to organizational and student success.
  • Ability to effectively supervise, evaluate, motivate, and develop professional employees.
  • Problem solving skills required to manage diverse and complex situations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain productive, collegial, and professional working relationships with both internal and external customers of the college.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethical behavior, honesty and integrity.
  • Knowledge of alternative instructional and student support methodologies.
  • Knowledge of accreditation processes.
  • Commitment to professional development and growth of others and self.
  • Effective stewardship of funds.
  • Desire to work in a team-based environment.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctorate Degree
  • Academic and/or student affairs leadership in a community and/or technical college.
  • Experience in supervision.
  • Working knowledge of higher education policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Experience in working with collective bargaining.
  • Experience in fiscal planning and budgeting.
