Reporting to the Dean and CEO, the Research Manager for Programs and Projects will manage all logistics of research, administration, mentoring and outreach programs and events at NUQ-IAS, on and off site, and work collaboratively with the Assistant Director for Research and the Research Manager for Grants to develop NUQ-IAS into a leading global research institute.
Primary duties of the Research Manager for Programs and Projects will include managing all fellow support, program logistics, and administration and finance (recruitment, visas, office space, travel, hospitality, catering, honoraria, technology and media) and liaising with various offices at NU-Q (human resources, communication, facilities, business and finance, IT, production); planning and managing NUQ-IAS events, including closed academic workshops and seminars, public lectures and large international conferences on the NU-Q campus and other local and global locations; planning and managing any social components of academic events (meals, coffee breaks, social outings); assisting the Assistant Director for Research in developing and managing external partnerships, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East; planning and staffing NUQ-IAS booths at local and international conferences, like the International Communication Association and the Middle East Studies Association, and others; managing the logistics of NUQ-IAS Press and assisting the Assistant Director with development and editorial; supporting the Dean and CEO in strategic planning and research activity.
Lead on scholar support, logistics and administration and finance in all NUQ-IAS programs and projects.
Help develop and manage NUQ-IAS’s undergraduate and postdoctoral fellowships, including through the provision of on-going, high quality, and supportive services and resources to fellows at the undergraduate and postdoctoral levels. Help develop and oversee a visiting faculty fellowship program.
Help establish, and manage, as “Managing Editor,” NUQ-IAS Press, including an innovative portfolio of publications related to NU-Q’s mission and NUQ-IAS key themes. Manage the logistics and promotion of multi-lingual and digital publications, in collaboration with the NU-Q Library.
Assist the Dean and CEO, NUQ-IAS staff, and NU-Q faculty in organizing high-quality and high-profile colloquia, speakers’ series, workshops, and symposia on topics relevant to the Center’s research.
Collaborate with NUQ-IAS staff and NU-Q faculty in researching, conceptualizing, preparing, submitting, and implementing relevant sponsored programs.
Support the Dean and CEO and institute staff in establishing and managing meaningful collaborations with researchers and research institutions who share NUQ-QIAS research focus and vision in order to foster new research that is both globally focused and locally relevant.
Assist the Dean and CEO with research and represent the Dean and CEO in any meetings related to logistics (administration and finance, communication and public affairs, human resources, facilities, IT and production) at NU-Q and beyond.
An M.A. in media, Middle East studies, or related field required. Familiarity with research on global media, politics and culture, particularly interdisciplinary perspectives from the Global South required. Knowledge of and/or previous experience in/on the Middle East is highly desirable.
Eight to ten years of administrative experience in globally focused, top tier peer academic institutions required.

Knowledge of procedures in business and finance, human resources, facilities, production and IT at leading US universities required.

Experience planning and staffing institutional booths at international conferences, required.
Experience promoting research programs and projects on legacy and social media required.
Project management experience with proven ability to plan, coordinate and execute offsite programs and projects required.
Publication planning and management experience, strong communication skills, and attention to detail required.
Ability to work and interact with diverse populations globally required.

Experience in fundraising and in working with grants and fellowships desired.
