This position will report to the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs and is responsible for campus life and student engagement programs across the district. The VPSE works collaboratively with the Student Affairs Leadership team and Academic Affairs staff across the District to create a campus culture that promotes student success, to provide a safe and welcoming campus environment for a diverse student body, and to foster a sense of community among the students.
Provide leadership, vision and direction for the development of a comprehensive, collaborative first year experience program;
Provides leadership in the development of services for international students;
Foster an inclusive college community that promotes equity and diversity for all students.
Facilitates the development and expansion of a Minority Male Initiative;
Responsible for coordinating transitional experiences for new and transfer students in collaboration with other College offices and departments, and is primarily responsible for new student orientation, transfer orientation, and first year programming;
Provides leadership in the development of a mentoring program for first year students;
Provides leadership to Campus managers of Student Life across the College to plan, develop, and deliver programming and outreach and engagement activities that will increase student success measures of enrollment, persistence, retention, and completion;
Participates in the strategic planning for assigned areas and assists in developing and implementing the overall departmental strategic plan;
Provides leadership and strategic direction to promote participation in student organizations, and various other student focused organizations and events;
Collaborates with other Vice Presidents to oversee the registration and enrollment process;
Participates in developing and implementing policies and procedures related to student organizations and events;
Creates, develops, and implements comprehensive and systematic leadership training for all student organizations;
Provide direction and intervention for students in crisis and non-crisis including intervening with mental health staff, providing victim advocacy, and working with staff and students affected by the crisis;
Serves as the Chief Student Affairs Officer of an assigned campus.
Master’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.
Seven years of professional full-time experience in Student Affairs at a higher education institution in student organizations, student programming, leadership development or a related area.
Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
Ten years of professional full-time experience in Student Affairs at a higher education institution in student government, student organizations, student programming, leadership development or a related area.
Experience working with student programming boards and/or experience organizing large programmatic efforts.
Experience with workshop and program facilitation and implementation in the areas of leadership development and organizational development.
Experience in developing systems utilizing technology and software in the administration of student organizations.
Experience hiring and supervising professional and/or student employees.
