The Center for Public Research and Leadership (CPRL) is seeking a full-time Director of Operations and Student Support. This full-time position is located in New York City.
ABOUT THE CENTER FOR PUBLIC RESEARCH AND LEADERSHIP:
The Center for Public Research and Leadership (CPRL) is a Columbia University-based partnership of professional schools that prepares students for leadership positions in public education organizations committed to improving the life chances of all children, particularly those of color, from low-income households, or otherwise traditionally underserved. The program brings together upper-level graduate students in data sciences, business, education, law, and policy from universities across the nation to study and engage in consulting projects serving public- and social-sector organizations undertaking and supporting transformational change in PK-12 education and in the public sector as a whole. The program offers graduate students the rigorous, multi-disciplinary, academic, and experiential preparation they need to flourish in exciting leadership, management, and professional positions in those same organizations while simultaneously offering the organizations high-quality, low-cost consulting support.
The Director for Operations and Student Services is directly responsible for the comprehensive oversight of CPRL's internal program operations, student recruitment and admissions, student support, grants management, and budgets. The Director of Operations and Student Support reports to CPRL's Deputy Director, Strategy and Operations.
The Director for Operations and Student Services will directly supervise CPRL's two Operations
Managers and will divide his or her time across the following areas of center activity:
Recruitment and Student Support
Responsible for all aspects of prospective student recruitment, selection, and enrollment at CPRL:
Lead student selection process: read, evaluate applications, and interview students; plan and lead admissions and scholar award decision-making process
Engage with CLS faculty and staff to coordinate integration of CPRL recruitment with other experiential learning program recruitment
Provide oversight to CPRL's Senior Manager of Operations and Alumni Support, who plans, creates, and implements semi-annual recruitment priority strategies, promotional materials, and semi-annual recruitment process.
Develop and implement strategic plan for recruitment of new partner school relationships and manage relationships with CPRL's 21+ current partner professional schools across the country
Oversee comprehensive academic administration for partner school relationships including managing variations in earned course credits, admitting and enrolling students, and overseeing all fiscal transactions between institutions Student Support
Oversee the transfer process of scholarship funds to partner schools/students
Oversee enrollment and onboarding of students at CPRL
Supervise Fiscal Management
Manage CPRL's financial model and develop annual and quarterly budgets
Create and implement comprehensive financial reporting systems
Monitor day-to-day program expenditures against budget; run reports in the university's Accounting and Reporting at Columbia (ARC) system
Oversee Senior Manager of Operations and Alumni Support in preparation of all client contracts and other agreements and CPRL's invoicing process
Support Fundraising efforts
Responsible for grants management:
Project manage CPRL's institutional grants management and administration: monitor and ensure compliance with proposal guidelines, grant commitments, and reporting requirements
Create budgets and budget narratives for CPRL's grant proposals and interim and final reports
Partner with CLS's Director of Corporate & Foundation Relations to source and respond to grant opportunities; partner with CLS's Sponsored Projects Finance to garner University approvals for proposal and report submissions
Ensure fiscal compliance with sponsor regulations for all CPRL's active grants
Create and implement grants training for CPRL staff
Provide support for individual giving:
Support the creation of and monitor the implementation of CPRL's individual giving strategy
Conduct research and develop preparatory materials for donor cultivation meetings
Maintain CPRL's Donor Database
Provide support for management of Advisory Council:
Prepare materials for and, as appropriate, participate in CPRL Advisory Council's Finance and Development committee meetings
Supporting the Deputy Director, Quality and Improvement, assist with the implementation of CPRL's visibility strategy:
Manage website content and maintaining website functionality
Manage and oversee social media content
Develop press releases
Ensure brand consistency across CPRL publications
Monitor impact of visibility strategy
BA required; MA preferred.
4-6 years of previous work experience in managing program operations
Demonstrated commitment to CPRL's mission to revitalize public education in order to improve the life chances of all children, particularly those of color, from low-income households, or otherwise traditionally underserved
Experience with grants administration and management - with a preference for university based
experience - or experience with individual giving
Demonstrated ability to multi-task and effectively manage varied projects to ensure timely, accurate and efficient completion
Capacity to proactively and efficiently leverage senior team to improve organizational
Intellectual capacity to think strategically in a fast-paced environment; understand multiple
perspectives; learn about new topics; problem solve and develop responsive solutions under
Ability to respond to and integrate feedback from both peers and supervisors; ability to
