Sociology is an exciting and dynamic field committed to the scientific study of group life. Sociologists are interested in many aspects of the social world, including culture, institutions such as the family and politics, race and ethnicity, social class, inequality, and social change. Sociology also focuses on the relationship between cultural and social structures and individual thought and action. For example, sociologists ask why it is that some people make more money than others, or why men and women have different patterns of health and illness. Sociologists use a variety of research methods, from quantitative analysis of large survey data to ethnographic studies of small groups. These methods provide unique insights into the social forces shaping contemporary social problems, the structure of society, and the experiences and life chances of individuals.

The individual selected for this role will assist in the conduct and implementation of behavioral research for the Social Networks and Alzheimer Disease (SNAD) project, in conjunction with the Indiana Alzheimer Disease Center. Participate in the initiation, monitoring, completion, and reporting of routine to moderately complex behavioral studies in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Good Clinical Practices (GCP). Research involves direct contact with adult research participants, particularly in elderly populations, including healthy controls and individuals with cognitive changes (i.e., mild cognitive impairment, Alzheimer disease, and other dementias).

Responsibilities include scheduling and conducting telephone subject and study partner interviews , subject recruitment and identification; conducting protocol designated procedures as appropriate; collecting and managing supplemental data; documentation of study activity; and ensuring adherence to all regulatory and policy requirements.

This role also assists in the preparation and response to audits and regulatory (i.e., IRB) queries and modifications; prepares and provides data for reports, and assists with administrative duties, including but not limited to: data entry, filing, photocopying, preparing study folders, and preparing mailings.

Bachelor's degree in any field; or associate degree with two years of experience in clinical or behavioral research.

Possess a valid driver's license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University.

Basic knowledge of science and behavioral and clinical trial research with human subjects. Ability to problem solve. Strong attention to detail and superior organizational skills. Willingness to learn new techniques and skills as needed. Ability to work in a team environment with a professional and positive attitude, but also be able to work independently.

Two years of experience in clinical or behavioral research and a background in social or biomedical science.

Must be able to remain stationary for moderate periods of time. This position will require travel with the staff member's own personal vehicle, which will be reimbursed based upon mileage.
