The Samuel Oschin Cancer Center , nationally ranked by U.S. News & World Report, treats more than 60 types of cancer. Its team of experts works to create a treatment plan to meet each patient's specific needs. The center's outpatient infusion center offers chemotherapy and supportive services, including 18 private rooms for treatment sessions six hours or longer.
A Clinical Nurse II (CN II) is a competent clinician who provides nursing care in a skilled and effective manner. You will utilize appropriate decision-making skills and exhibit competence in the technical, interpersonal and cognitive abilities required to independently and safely manage routine patient assignment. The Clinical Nurse II establishes a plan of care, sets goals, determines priorities, and provides care within established standards of practice.
Summary of Essential Duties:
Assist in clinic with patient preparation for minor procedures such as biopsy or wound care. Responsibilities to include collect and laboratory specimens, provide pateint education, assist with scheduling follow up appointments, assist with home health arrangements.
Prepare for clinic by obtaining pateint records, provide pateint education regarding presurgical testing. Provide phone triage for pateint questions concerns.
Provide wound care, IV insertion, PICC or port blood draw, and medications as ordered by physician.
Provides and accurately documents direct and indirect patient care services that ensures the safety, comfort, personal hygiene, and protection of patients in a timely manner
Administration of medications and therapeutic agents necessary to implement treatment, disease prevention, or rehabilitative plan of care
Performs skin tests, immunizations, phlebotomy and the initiation of peripheral venous access
Implements appropriate reporting, referrals and care in accordance with standardized procedures
Initiates emergency procedures when indicated
Demonstrates knowledge and is able to identify and make special adjustments as required to the specific populations needs, including cultural, spiritual, age, psychosocial, communication, gender, sexual orientation, economic, education, family and condition needs
Graduate of an accredited nursing program required
Bachelor of Science, Nursing (BSN) preferred
Current, unrestricted California RN License required
BLS from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required
A minimum of 1 year of acute care nursing experience required
Oncology nursing experience preferred
Competency in intravenous skills and vascular access device management required
