The Rutgers University School of Health Professions (SHP) is seeking a Chair for the Department of Physician Assistant Studies and Practice (PA Department). SHP is the largest school of health professions in the nation with over 25 academic programs ranging from certificate to doctorate across the health care landscape. The Chair will be responsible for comprehensive oversight of the highly ranked Physician Assistant program. The Chair is a member of the school’s executive leadership team and will be responsible for building relationships within RBHS units and centers to further the strategic mission of the school/program. It is expected that the RU Physician Assistant Program, under the direction of the Chair, continues to be a national leader in physician assistant education, research, and practice.
Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: - Creating a vision of growth for the department including a strategic plan, goals, and assessment benchmarks. - Provide organizational leadership for current and future departmental programs and initiatives. - Create an environment for the department leadership, faculty, and staff to thrive. - Oversee faculty recruitment, development, mentorship, and workload. - Partner with SHP leadership including the Dean, Associate Deans, and other Chairs to further SHP's strategic initiatives. - Represent the department in executive-level forums at the school and university level. - Continue to maintain professional areas of expertise and engagement in key mission areas of teaching, scholarship, and clinical practice.
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Terminal degree required, doctorate in related field is strongly preferred. - Academic and/or professional portfolio commensurate with a rank of associate professor or above - Minimum of 5 years working in a leadership role with evidence of success in goal attainment as well as recruitment, retention, and mentorship of faculty and/or staff. - Experience in fiscal, organizational, and administrative management.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Experience with and knowledge of accreditation and certification procedures for PAs and PA Programs as indicated by ARC-PA and NCCPA.
- Excellent communication skills; ability to be diplomatic and a credible voice to a wide variety of academic, professional, and community audiences.
