Urgent Care Clinician - Foster Hospital for Small Animals - (21001059)
The Henry and Lois Foster Hospital for Small Animals provides 24-hour care, 365 days of the year. Since 1979, we have offered high quality specialty care and emergency veterinary services. The hospital creates a positive learning experience for students and house officers.
We are searching for two skilled veterinarians to help manage urgent care cases presented to our emergency service. Approximately 60 emergent and urgent care cases present to our current service daily. Sixty percent of cases are managed as out-patients, while 40% are admitted to the hospital for one day or more.
The recruited veterinarians will be part of a 2-member team that will manage urgent care cases presented to our emergency service. The successful applicants are expected to work collaboratively with the emergency service and other specialty services as required.
The successful applicants will work in a collaborative environment to manage urgent care cases transferred from the emergency service. The main responsibilities are to manage urgent care cases after triage by the emergency service and provide diagnostic tests and minor procedures as necessary while communicating directly with the owners. The service will have dedicated support staff and may also have fourth years students and/or interns assigned as well. Teamwork is essential as well as the ability to efficiently manage a high caseload. Depending on the caseload, direct assistance in the emergency service, receiving urgent care cases, may be required. Training will be provided in the use of our electronic medical record system (Stringsoft). As we are a teaching hospital, the successful applicants will be involved in student mentoring on the clinic floor. The service is intended to provide 7 day-a-week coverage, starting at approximately 11 am - noon and running into the evening. The exact work hours will be determined by caseload requirements and the distribution of assigned working time will be negotiated with the team members, under the guidance of the hospital director. It is expected that there will be four-day ten-hour shifts, plus meal and rest breaks. We pride ourselves on providing excellent patient care and client service in a supportive environment and we would welcome the addition of enthusiastic and motivated veterinarians to support our hospital and our vision for the future.
