Reporting to the Provost, the Vice Provost for Student Success provides leadership and strategic oversight to a staff of just over 100 full and part-time staff undertaking a large and comprehensive portfolio of student life responsibilities and initiatives in support of undergraduate and graduate students. The Vice Provost works collaboratively with the Provost and the deans of the schools and colleges to create a campus culture that promotes students’ academic and career learning, provides a safe, healthy, nurturing and welcoming campus environment for a diverse student body, and creates a sense of community and connection. The Vice Provost also serves as a member of the Provost’s leadership to align academic, administrative and budgetary priorities within the various units of the Provost’s Office.
The Vice Provost is expected to have a proven record of understanding principles of inclusion and equity and implementing measures that provide for a working environment premised in, and dedicated to, Social Justice concerns.
The Vice Provost is specifically responsible for the overall leadership, administration and management of:
Personnel and Budgets
Student Advocacy Programs
Career Development and Advising
Health and Wellness Services
Student Leadership Activities
Family and Faculty engagement
Student centered programming (e.g., Welcome Weekend, New Student Orientation, Career Programs)
Integrate closely with academic leadership of the schools and colleges to create and support co-curricular programming and services in a comprehensive and integrated approach to enhance the student experience and improve retention and graduation rates.
Develop, manage and support an effective, highly professional and diverse leadership team dedicated to a student affairs – academic affairs collaborative model in holistic support of students; promote professional development to ensure a well-trained and motivated staff.
Provide leadership and guidance in analysis, review, creation and interpretation of student policies and procedures; collaborate closely with the Provost and members of the PO leadership team to coordinate and integrate policies and procedures designed to enhance the full academic and non-academic experience of all students.
Working closely with Planning and Administration, oversee and manage personnel and budget within the unit and as a part of the Provost’s Office overall budget strategy.
Develop key collaborative relationships with campus administrative areas, faculty, and campus and community leaders to enhance planning and implementation of strategic initiatives, address matters of student concern and respond to crisis situations should they arise.
Collaborate closely with the Office of Enrollment and Office of the Registrar to support integration and onboarding of new students.
Prepare, analyze and evaluate reports relating to areas under the purview of Student Success including but not limited to student satisfaction, health and wellbeing, and engagement. Advance the management of data; utilize assessment results into strategic decision-making. Disseminate reports and updates relative to the Student Success areas for various campus constituencies and external reporting agencies as needed.
Ensure timely and effective communications with students, student leaders. families and university stakeholders.
Serve as a strong advocate for the non-academic, extra-curricular, and co-curricular needs of students within the academic mission and aligned with the schools and colleges. Promote the development and implementation of co- curricular activities that meet the needs and interests of the student population (including clubs and organizations, intramurals and athletics, student life, wellness programs, etc.).
Initiate innovative practices to strengthen ability to meet emerging student needs; create programs that support personal and leadership development; provide a portfolio of services (Counseling, Health, Student Conduct, etc.) that promote the safety and well being of the student population and improve the holistic wellness of all students.
Collaborate and support the development of internship and career opportunities for students; provide variety of career-related programs and events to support career outcomes.
Support students with special circumstances access to programs/services that allow them to thrive in their academic and professional endeavors.
Represent Student Success on University-wide committees and task forces as requested.

●Master’s degree, terminal degree preferred, with 7 -10 years of experience in higher education within student affairs/success, student engagement, or a relevant field. ●Strong and transparent leadership style, with the ability to motivate self and others through building consensus. Ability to work collaboratively with other members of the Provost’s leadership team to develop and align planning, policies, budgets, and communications. ●Analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to anticipate future outcomes of proposed actions and recommend changes as required. ●Demonstrated experience in support of a diverse working environment dedicated to principles of Social Justice, inclusivity and equity. ●Experience in personnel management to include hiring, supervising, and coaching employees. ●Experience providing leadership and direction in programmatic, budgetary, and operational functions. ●Organizational skills to set goals, prioritize assignments, monitor performance, and exceed set deadlines. ●Strong oral and written communication skills with experience creating and delivering presentations to small and large diverse groups. ●Ability to develop innovative approaches, techniques and procedures to provide more efficient services. ●Ability to demonstrate critical thinking based upon in-depth data, substantiating information, while considering and respecting others’ input, personal values, and ethics. ●Ability to strategically plan and serve as a catalyst for organizational change, cultivate a shared vision with others, and motivate others to transfer vision into action.
