About the Opportunity: This project will aid in the coordination of research activity of a team of co-ops, student research assistants, and TNS employees supporting GRI's research portfolio. The Research Coordinator will work with the Executive Director for Research and Associate Director for Research to monitor data collection, stakeholder engagement, and the production of resilience reports. To accomplish this, this team member will provide guidance to other researchers and assist in managing project timelines and deliverables. Additionally, the Research Coordinator will perform research responsibilities, as needed, to ensure the timely completion of project deliverables.
Responsibilities: This position will also provide guidance and coordination to a team of Operational Support Liaisons. This team is working with FEMA Region 1 and the six New England states to enable the effective operations of recovery stakeholders at the federal, state, and local levels. These positions will be help to a team of other co-op students and TNS employees, each of whom will have responsibility for a New England state or Native American tribe. In addition to serving as a conduit between GRI and the regional recovery agencies, this position will work closely with the Operational Support team members to maintain situational awareness across the New England region and to share key findings and recommendations.
Specific Research Coordinator responsibilities will include:
Assisting in the work planning and execution of on-going and future research projects to include overseeing and providing guidance to research assistants, monitoring progress towards project milestones, identifying potential project challenges and providing suggested solutions to Institute leadership.
Assisting with the day-to-day management of research projects, including providing training and guidance to research team members and working with the Associate Director for Research to distribute workload and assignments.
Assisting in the development of new research proposals, specifically, in drafting technical narratives and project timelines.
Conducting research, writing, and editing responsibilities to support the successful and timely completion of multiple, concurrent research projects.
Specific Operational Support responsibilities will include:
Working with the Executive Director and Associate Director for Research to coordinate the research activity of the six state's respective operational support team members to share lessons and themes across states.
Working with state agencies and GRI experts to identify critical issues affecting resilient economic recovery and identifying relevant stakeholders in order to convene calls, workshops, or working groups that enable the issues to be addressed holistically and rapidly.
Providing resilience expertise - either through direct engagement or facilitating engagement with GRI senior researchers - to recovery decision-makers.
Providing research support, operational assistance, and engagement coordination, as needed.
2+ year work experience, especially in an externally facing/stakeholder management role (i.e. project management, consulting, etc.) strongly preferred;
Strong interest in community and economic resilience;
Background in public policy, economics, business strategy, or a similar field preferred;
Experience conducting interdisciplinary research required; experience conducting community resilience and economic development research strongly preferred;
Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
Experience supporting stakeholder interviews in a research environment;
Strong note taking abilities and proofreading and editing skills;
Experience synthesizing large amounts of information into concise briefings or other written and oral presentations;
Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize deadlines in fast-paced office environment;
Ability to stay focused and excel with minimal supervision; and
High level of professionalism;
Microsoft Office skills - Experience with Outlook and OneNote strongly preferred.
