A postdoctoral position is available in the Hanson Lab in the Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research at the Indiana University School of Medicine. Our lab is interested in the regulation of the innate and adaptive immune response pathways and how these are impacted by genetic mutations we identify in patients with one of the rare Autoinflammatory Diseases. In particular, we are interested in studying activation and regulation of NF-kB, type I IFN and the various inflammasomes.
The candidate will perform advanced molecular and biochemical studies to identify genetic mutation and determine the mechanisms and downstream effects of altered gene function. The candidate will use in vivo and in vitro models in genetically modified mice, primary patient samples, pluripotent stem cells, and engineered cancer cell lines.
Duties and responsibilities include performing in vivo characterization of mouse models of disease and mouse and human cell culture experiments; extensive use of cell and molecular biology techniques and includes small animal (mouse) handling and dosing. Mouse handling techniques include peritoneal and tail vein injection of mice, performing cheek bleeds, dissection and cell harvest, primary and cancer cell culture, DNA transfection, qPCR, immunoblot, flow cytometry and immunofluorescence. Experience with handling limited human samples and mice is desirable. Having experience with or interest in developing basic computational analysis skills, such as processing data in R, is also is desirable.

PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular or Cell Biology, Immunology, or a related field and/or MD. The candidate should be able to work closely with others in a team setting as well as independently. The candidate will be trained to design and conduct experiments, and must have effective oral and written communication skills.
