The School of Chemical, Biological & Environmental Engineering invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term XPS Research Associate position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the School Head.
The purpose of this position is to support Oregon State University's (OSU) efforts in surface characterization as part of the Northwest Nanotechnology Infrastructure (NNI) site which is funded through the National Science Foundation – National Nanotechnology Coordinated Infrastructure (NNCI) program.
The Research Associate will perform research using an integrated Near Ambient Pressure – X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy and Near Ambient Pressure – Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (NAP-XPS/NAP-STM) system and other equipment located in the Ambient Pressure Surface Characterization Laboratory (APSCL) (http://nnci.oregonstate.edu/ambient-pressure-surface-characterization-laboratory). This position also supports the educational mission of the School of Chemical, Biological and Environmental Engineering, the College of Engineering, and OSU.
Requires PhD or terminal degree and experience in the academic discipline/unit.
Ph.D. in Physical Science or Engineering including Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
Demonstrated experience with operation and maintenance of ultrahigh vacuum systems, and a record of research and development using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and/or scanning tunneling microscopy.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions
Majority of work is performed in a laboratory environment. Will require wearing appropriate personal protective equipment. Seldom (1-5%) walk on uneven surfaces and climbing ladders. Occasional (6-33%) Bend/stoop, crouch/squat. Frequent (34-66%) walk on level surfaces, reach at or above shoulders. Continuous (67-100%) reach below shoulder, use of arms/wrists/hands, grasping/squeezing.
