The Veterinary Clinical Sciences Department at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications from talented, energetic small animal veterinarians with strong communication and interpersonal skills for a contract appointment as an Urgent Care Clinician. The successful applicant will be able to provide excellent quality GP level outpatient care to client-owned animals in a dynamic teaching hospital setting on a part-time basis. The Veterinary Medical Center’s Urgent Care Service helps to complete the continuum of care between the VMC’s Primary Care Service and its 24/7 Emergency Service, offering receiving hours from 3 pm – 9:30 pm weekdays, and from 10 am to 3 pm on weekends beginning on, or after June 1, 2021, depending on the availability of the selected candidate.
This position is a non-tenure, contract track 60%-100% time appointment with the title of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. Responsibilities include primary case responsibility in the outpatient receiving service and clinical instruction of veterinary students and/or interns rotating through the service. The service's clinicians will work closely with a team of certified veterinary technicians to ensure high quality care, excellent customer service, and an optimal teaching environment. There are no required didactic teaching or research responsibilities for the position. Faculty at the VMC are recipients of mentoring and can access unique opportunities for professional development both in and out of the University setting.
Essential qualifications include a DVM/VMD or equivalent foreign degree and a minimum of 2 years companion animal (dog and cat) practice experience, or completion of a I-year rotating internship program. Desired/preferred qualifications include a minimum of 3 years practice.
