The Grand View University Communication Department invites applications for a full-time communication faculty member with specialization in one or more of the following disciplines: writing, editing, publication management, publication design.
The Grand View Communication Department believes in the power of practical and experiential instruction that gets students working on real projects for real audiences early and often. We are committed to cultivating graduates with a broad base of skills and experiences that will allow them the flexibility to adapt and innovate as our field (and the world) continues to transform. We recognize that many of the old rules and practices of our discipline are out of step with modern realities and are committed to challenging ourselves and our students to revise these rules and write the next chapter of our field’s story.
As such, we are looking for someone with extensive experience as a multimedia storyteller who embraces innovation and emerging techniques and who is passionate about preparing our diverse body of students to be nimble, thoughtful media professionals in the ever-changing communication world. The right candidate will have recent professional experience producing media content (particularly for digital audiences) in a journalism, public relations, marketing or corporate communication setting.
Teaching courses offered by the department, which could include the following: Multimedia Storytelling, Journalism Lab/Reporting, Digital Publishing, Public Relations Principles, Media Literacy, Communication Law & Ethics, Feature Writing and Editing, Multimedia Career Seminar.
Active, ongoing engagement in the professional communication field
Academic advising, and advising University-based student media
Successfully engages with students from a wide range of backgrounds, races, cultures, ethnicities, sexual preferences, abilities, and nationalities in a manner that positively promotes the communication field’s impact on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Providing vision for department programs, in collaboration with department faculty
Providing service to the University, discipline and community
START DATE: Fall 2021

Bachelor’s degree with prior professional experience
Master’s degree in a related field. Given the practical nature of this position, we are open to hiring an experienced professional with a bachelor’s degree for a consecutive-term appointment with the expectation that a master’s degree be completed within four years.
Previous University-level teaching experience
Experience working in a diverse environment and/or with marginalized groups.
