THESCHOOL OF FINEANDPERFORMINGARTS (SFPA), a unit of the Westminster College of the Arts of Rider University, announces an opening for a full-time, tenure track appointment in Musical Theatre at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning September 1, 2021. We seek an artist-teacher who will join our Theatre and Dance Department faculty and technical staff as we seek to increase our population of diverse students, our inclusion of underrepresented areas in our performances and curriculum, and the incorporation of inclusive pedagogies in our classrooms.
Primary expertise in diverse theater, history, performance, and pedagogy
Experience with other underrepresented areas in theatre and musical theatre
Evidence of course, production, or curricular design to include critical dialogue that considers race, practice, and outcomes
Ability to teach beyond the traditional western canon, to include areas such as: the African Diaspora, Asian or Latinx Theatre, Feminist Theatre, and/or other areas.
Recruit and promote the B.F.A. degrees in Musical Theatre and Acting
All Rider University faculty are expected to maintain an appropriate and active scholarly and/or creative agenda and to participate effectively in advising, recruiting, committee work, and other activities that support our teaching and learning community.
SFPA is one of four units of the Westminster College of the Arts, comprised additionally of Westminster Choir College, Westminster Conservatory, and Westminster Continuing Education. The School collaborates with other departments and colleges of Rider University in support of the curriculum, performances, and productions.

Required Qualifications – the successful candidate will
hold a terminal degree in Acting, Directing, or Musical Theatre, or a Bachelor's Degree with extensive professional experience in the field.
have experience in diverse theater and performance history, repertoire, and pedagogy
demonstrate success in teaching and guiding students who increasingly come from a diverse personal, educational, artistic, and socio-economic background
have experience working in an academic setting
provide evidence of success promoting diversity and equity in theatre education and performance

mainstage directing experience
collegiate teaching experience
ability to maintain an effective working relationship with faculty, both within and outside the department
demonstrated success in student recruitment and development
membership in professional unions such as AEA, SDC, SAG-AFTRA or DGA
