The mission of the Department of Spiritual Care and Wellbeing is to provide high quality, cross-culturally sensitive spiritual care to patients, families and staff of University of Washington Medical Center. Clinical Spiritual Care Providers offer patients, families, and staff the opportunity to embrace the spiritual component of health, illness, and death by supporting and exploring ones spiritual coping practices and address any spiritual, religious or existential distress. UWMC attends to the diversity of cultures and spiritual needs by the multi-faith and inter-spiritual nature of our work and by our partnerships with many cultural and spiritual traditions. We assess and respond to the complexities of spiritual, religious, and existential (SRE) distress and support and explore SRE coping practices.
