A NIH-funded Postdoctoral Fellow position is currently available in the laboratory of Dr. Jarrod Fortwendel, PhD in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Translational Science at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) located in Memphis, TN. The Postdoctoral Fellow will have opportunities to characterize novel molecular mechanisms that drive antifungal resistance and underpin survival of the major pathogen, Aspergillus fumigatus, in response to antifungal stress. Research approaches will encompass molecular, cellular, and biochemical studies, as well as in vivo models of disease and antifungal therapy. Highly motivated individuals with a strong background in molecular biology are especially encouraged to apply.
Dr. Fortwendel's laboratory is located within the College of Pharmacy at UTHSC which offers excellent research space housed in a highly collaborative environment. The Fortwendel lab is a member of the joint University of Tennessee (UT) - St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (SJCRH) Fungal Pathogens Group. This larger group includes five additional NIH-funded laboratories focused on different aspects of fungal pathogenesis, antifungal drug resistance, and novel antifungal drug development. The UT-SJCRH Fungal Pathogens Group holds regular research-in-progress meetings, annual retreats, and external seminar speakers allowing ample opportunity for professional networking.
