Associate Professor/Professor and Chair of Internal Medicine Department
The University of South Carolina School of Medicine Columbia (USCSOMC) and Prisma Health are seeking a senior physician leader to serve as Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine for the USCSOMC and for Prisma Health Midlands. This individual should be a practicing internal medicine physician who is eligible to receive a professional (non-tenure) track or tenure track faculty appointment. Reporting directly to the President of the Prisma Midlands Medical Group for clinical duties and to the Dean, UofSC SOM for academic duties, the successful candidate will have a history of outstanding patient care delivery with a good understanding of the dynamic changes in health care and have a demonstrated commitment to medical education. This work will occur in a complex environment that is bringing together excellence in clinical care delivery and academic programs to meet the health care needs of residents of the region within the emerging value-driven health care environment.
The department chair is a senior leader who is responsible for organizing and aligning performance of the department through creating and advancing interdepartmental collaboratives in support of system goals.
Participates in System strategic planning efforts
Establishes and integrates Department goals and budgets
Leads and develops Department Vice Chairs and Department leadership
Recruits and retains exceptional talent, working with Division Chiefs
Leads the Department peer review process and departmental physician specific interventions, including counseling, coaching, mentoring, and disciplinary action, working with Vice Chair of Medical Staff Affairs and Division Chiefs (where existing), as appropriate.
Manages Department within approved budgets
Establishes and cultivates an internal, regional, and national reputation for the Department and System
Drives Departmental and System pillar results
Promotes clinical integration within Department, across the System, and throughout the region
Builds coalitions with internal and external stakeholders; collaborates with leadership across organizational boundaries.
Establishes and oversees compensation plans for Department within approved Medical Group parameters and models
Nurtures the System culture within Department that reflects the vision, mission, values, and goals of Prisma Health and the USCSOMC.
Maintains clinical practice sufficient to assure clinical competence, obtain direct observations, provide professional credibility, and enhance social fabric.
Advertised Minimum Qualifications :
Required Education: Medical Degree – Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Experience – 8 years – Successful Completion of Residency; Board Certified or Board Eligible; Medical Staff Privileges
South Carolina Medical License
South Carolina Controlled Substance License, Drug Enforcement Agency Number
Eligible to receive a faculty appointment, professional (non-tenured) or tenured, at the rank of associate professor or professor
