The University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce School of Law (UNH Law), a national leader in legal education with a commitment to inclusion, diversity, and quality engagement for all, seeks to hire an Open Rank Professor to serve as the Director of the JD Legal Writing Program to begin August 2021. The Director will be a secure, or secure track full-time faculty member involved in teaching, administration, and faculty governance. Essential Job Functions: The Director will be responsible for managing both the law schoolâs residential and hybrid legal writing programs including: â¢Developing and managing the first-year JD writing curriculum including a 2 credit course in the Fall semester and a 3 credit course in the Spring semester. â¢Teaching legal writing courses to first-year JD students. â¢Managing, mentoring, and leading legal writing faculty in the residential and hybrid JD programs. â¢Hiring, managing, and mentoring teaching assistants. â¢Engaging with national legal writing community. â¢Assuring that the program is providing up-to-date high-quality education by maintaining connections with national professional organizations and attending and presenting at national and regional conferences. â¢Depending on institutional needs, teaching other courses within the Directorâs expertise and interest. â¢Participating in faculty governance such as serving on law school committees. â¢Assisting in law school objectives, such as through recruitment of students and engagement with alumni. â¢Contributing to the larger legal community through service. â¢Working well with faculty, staff and students as well as community groups of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, sexual orientation, sexual identity, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.
â¢Applicants should have a J.D. and strong academic credentials, as well as substantial experience in practicing law and in teaching legal writing and professional skills. â¢Demonstrated skill at working collaboratively. â¢Demonstrated administrative leadership skills. â¢Excellent interpersonal skills. â¢Strong interest in all aspects of legal practice and the profession, and in mentoring students. â¢Strong interest in engaging with the national legal writing communities. â¢Interest in engaging and growing the JD hybrid legal writing program. â¢A commitment to promoting inclusive excellence and diversity.
