The Pharmacy Assistant Director, Infusion Services will develop, implement, and lead existing or new pharmacy programs in support of infusion services; ensure and promote the safe, rational, compliant and cost-effective use of medication use processes in patients under our care; provide leadership for a team of supervisors and support quality improvement.

This position manages daily operations, providing support, supervision, and coordination of leadership team, personnel, and activities of the infusion service line. May assist in compounding and dispensing medication as necessary.
Lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of infusion pharmacy services to support the Michigan Medicine’s goals and objectives
Execute the plans of the organization in accordance with hospital, departmental, and governmental policies, procedures, and regulations.
Work collaboratively with physician and health-system leadership teams to develop and implement quality and process changes that improve patient care and pharmacy services
Represent infusion pharmacy at committee levels regarding medication use within organization
Ensures all related quality assurance, billing, and other activities are performed and documented.
Hiring duties include interviewing, selecting and training of other team leaders like supervisors as well as employees; setting and adjusting their rates of pay and hours of work; planning and directing their work; appraising their productivity and efficiency for the purpose of recommending promotions or other changes in their status; handling their complaints and grievances and disciplining them when necessary.
This position has impact on and financial authority over the area in which they manage including budgeting, controlling costs, planning, scheduling, and procedural changes.
Facilitate experiential education for students and residents.
This position may assume responsibility for the department in the absence of the department head.
Actively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders in designing, implementing and monitoring patient care delivery systems
Provide assistance as a member of patient care team ensuring accurate medication use in specified patient care area
Assure the appropriateness of medication therapy through:
Review of medication orders for clinical appropriateness based on patient specific conditions and concomitant therapies.
Communication with prescribers and providers regarding appropriateness of drug therapy and patient response to therapy.
Pharmacists serve as preceptors for Doctor of Pharmacy students on a variety of practice experiences including Introductory Pharmacy Patient Experiences (IPPEs) and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPEs), and may provide didactic education for pharmacy students
Pharmacists serve as preceptors for pharmacy residents (PGY1 Pharmacy, PGY2 Hematology/Oncology, Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership (HSPAL)).
May assist in the development and provision of medication-related educational and training programs
May conduct or participate in research, drug use projects, cost reduction/management initiatives, and quality improvement activities consistent with Michigan Medicine’s goals and objectives.
Additional pharmacy and patient care services may include but are not limited to:
Patient education, including but not limited to chemotherapy education, malignancy related symptom management counseling, and anticoagulation education
Precept PGY1 Pharmacy, PGY1&2 HSPAL residents
Assure the appropriateness of medication therapy through: (rare responsibilities)
Compound and accurately dispense medications, intravenous solutions and related supplies
Formulate, prepare, and maintain quality control of pharmaceutical preparations
Check medication preparation and oversee delegated pharmacy services performed by pharmacy technicians
Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from an accredited College of Pharmacy or equivalent combination of education and experience
Bachelor Degree in Pharmacy with completion of internship, licensure as a Registered Pharmacist in the State of Michigan and 3 to 5 years of pharmacy experience including 1 to 2 years supervisory experience.
Certificate of completion from a PGY-1&2 Residency in Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership (HSPAL), or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience in management and leadership.
Current licensure as a registered pharmacist by the State of Michigan Board of Pharmacy and a Michigan Controlled Substance License to practice pharmacy in the State of Michigan, or eligibility to become licensed within 60 days of employment start date
Demonstrate and apply excellent teamwork and communication skills
Effectively communicate with pharmacy team members, other healthcare professionals, employees, patients and visitors
Accurately and efficiently interpret and process medication orders, labels, and documentation
Ability to meet all of the above qualifications and requirements with or without reasonable accommodation
Relevant work experience in the area of practice
Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) certification as a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS)

This position will report to the Director of Ambulatory, Oncology, and Research Pharmacy Services
Assistant Directors provide direct supervision of supervising and patient care pharmacists, technical staff, residents, and students working in their area including completion of job assignments and assuring adherence to institutional policies and procedures.
