The Division of Science and Mathematics at New York University Abu Dhabi is inviting applications for several externally funded positions at the Post-Doctoral Associate level in the broad research areas of analytical chemistry and petroleum chemistry. While all applicants with analytical chemistry background will be considered, applications with prior experience in analytical methods that are of relevance to the petroleum industry, as well as HPLC method development, ICP-OES and advanced ion chromatography will be given priority.
The Post-Doctoral Associate will work under the supervision of Dr. Panče Naumov (nyuad.nyu.edu/en/research/faculty-research/naumov-group.html) on the preparation and characterization of new materials. This full-time position is dedicated to externally funded applied research as part of an ongoing collaboration between NYUAD and a local oil company. Key requirements of the suitable candidate(s) for this position are the timely delivery of analytical results, the capacity to work as part of a team, and ability to deliver under the constraints of a strict timeframe. The lab is well-equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for materials characterization, including chromatography, spectroscopy, microscopy, and equipment for thermal and mechanical characterization. The Post-Doctoral Associate will also be provided access to the well-equipped core research facilities of NYUAD.
The applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent degree in chemistry, physics, or materials science.
Priority will be given to candidates with a background in the following primary and secondary areas of expertise:
(1) Wet chemistry methods/ Time-Resolved Fluorescence Spectroscopy/ High Resolution Mass Spectrometry/NMR:Supporting methods (e.g. extrography and accelerated solvent extraction) for the fractionation, detection, analysis of complex polyaromatic mixtures
(2) Quantification of surface adsorption, particularly by using quartz crystal microbalance (QCM-D): Quantification of the deposition of petroliferous materials on different surfaces using quartz crystal microbalance, chemical and physical characterization of colloids, small-angle scattering, diffuse scattering.
(3) Inductively coupled plasma - optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) and ion chromatography (IC):Execution of ICP-OES in organic as well as aqueous phase. Matrix-matching studies to ensure that meaningful data is generated. Discrimination of different species by IC.
(4) High-Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC): Customization of an HPLC setup and development of effective HPLC methods using the customized setup for accurate analysis and quantification of analytes in complex mixtures.
Applicants are required to indicate at the beginning of their cover letter their primary and secondary area(s) of expertise from the above list. Applications without these details will not be considered.
The terms of employment are competitive and include housing and educational subsidies for the Post-Doctoral Associate and their dependents. Applications will be accepted immediately and candidates will be considered until the position is filled.
To be considered, all applicants must submit a cover letter (with expected date of availability), curriculum vitae with a full publication list, one-page statement of research interests, and three representative publications, all in PDF format. To complete the online process, applicants will be prompted to enter the names and email addresses of three referees. Each referee will be contacted to upload their reference letter.
