Sunthetics (www.sunthetics.org) is an NYU spin-off company that offers a sustainable manufacturing path to Nylon 6,6, through a more efficient and sustainable electrosynthesis process for adiponitrile (ADN), a key chemical intermediate in the production of Nylon. The Sunthetics process uses state-of-the-art electrochemical reactors to improve the production rate of ADN by 30% compared to traditional manufacturing methods. Sunthetics is working alongside the Modestino group (www.modestinogroup.com) at NYU on the scale-up and optimization of this process.
An electrochemical engineer candidate is sought that will embrace the role of Senior Research Associate at NYU Tandon School of Engineering. The individual will work on optimizing the cost of Sunthetics' manufacturing process for the electrochemical production of adiponitrile (ADN).
Responsibilities:
The Senior Research Associate will work closely with Myriam Sbeiti (Sunthetics) and Prof. Miguel Modestino (NYU) in order to accomplish the following tasks:
Demonstrate and optimize the Sunthetics process in 100 cm2 electrochemical reactor
Develop cost-effective electrodeposition methods for large-scale catalyst manufacturing
Identify optimal electrode materials for the reactor
Identify optimal ion-conducting membranes for the reactor
Qualifications:
PhD in engineering, science, or technology-focused discipline (BS/MS acceptable for strong candidates with electrochemical experience).
Experience with electrochemical devices
Interest in commercialization of technology
Excellent communication skills
Excellent organization and project management skills
Programming experience (Experience with LabVIEW desired)
Self-motivated to work independently with attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
Preferred but not required: experience in scaling up electrochemical devices and electrodeposition
