Summary: A library team member with duties for developing and delivering information services to support excellence in education, research, and patient care at Des Moines University. Provides comprehensive reference and digital assistance and instructional services in the fields of medicine and the health sciences for the students, faculty, and staff. Supports development of library collections and provides exceptional customer service. Coordinates digital support and manages library-related technology, including library’s presence on the internal campus portal, and the integrated library system(s). As a non-tenure track faculty member, the incumbent is responsible for demonstrating teaching, service and scholarly work.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Customer Service – Provides proactive customer-oriented services. This responsibility includes reference/research services and accessing resources. Assists DMU individuals and groups in locating and obtaining information and materials from within the library, online, or through interlibrary loan. Provide instructional support in the form of reference links and outreach: either in person or by telephone, email, or mail.
Daily Operations - Monitor library statistics and adhere to copyright compliance and contractual commitments; Support the gathering of digital resources and systems usage data and work with colleagues to study and report this data internally and externally; Supervise student workers and/or volunteers as assigned. Evaluate and purchase materials, and recommends materials for removal, as appropriate.
Digital Information Access - Support the provision of effective access to digital information from on- and off-campus through the development of the institutional repository (intranet).
Digital Accessibility - In cooperation with library colleagues, ensure the ADA accessibility of the library’s digital resources and systems. Coordinates digital preservation, intellectual property, and content management.
Library Technology - Maximize the university’s investment in library technology by integrating the library’s resources and systems into campus technologies such as the campus portal and learning management system. Maximize the university’s intellectual capital by managing digital preservation systems, integrating paid e-resources that are served from the campus portal. Work with or manage, as appropriate, the library’s integrated library system, online library resources and systems, and continuously improve user experience.
Collections Development – Ensure support for thoughtful, strategic and meaningful; development of library collections.
Professional Development - In cooperation with librarian colleagues and faculty in other departments, develop and offer instructional support, workshops and media to DMU faculty, students, and staff including: helpful apps, citation management systems, and other tools and devices helpful in teaching, learning, productivity and the research process; As appropriate, provide leadership in development, assessment, and promotion of the library offerings for faculty, student and staff development.
Library Literacy Programs - Educate students, present information literacy workshops, and prepares instructional aids regarding bibliographic instruction, citations, computers and technology, and library materials and services.
Library Outreach - Develop and follow through on outreach opportunities to faculty, students, and staff to support the marketing and growth of library services and programs; Promote library resources and materials to students, faculty, and staff.
Teaching—As a member of the faculty, prepare and present instructional materials to the university’s various stakeholders. Service— As a member of the faculty, participate on university, college and department committees as well as selected meaningful opportunities for regional or national service to organizations that support library sciences.
Scholarly Work— As a member of the faculty, engage in or collaborate on scholarly projects, including manuscript publications in peer-reviewed journals, presentations at regional, national and international conferences and seeking sponsored research funding related to appropriate science areas.
Advisory Services – including research for faculty-researchers. In cooperation with library colleagues, support the library’s social media accounts by engaging with faculty-researchers.
Part of the Library Team – participate in strategic planning; promote the development and implementation of new services and programming.
Planning Programs – organize special events as appropriate Collaborate with colleagues within the library and across campus to resolve issues as they occur.
Attends workshops, conferences, and professional seminars to stay current with the latest developments and technologies in the field of library and information science.
Participate in and successfully complete all University required training including, but not limited to discrimination/harassment and code of conduct.

Education and/or Experience: Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an American Library Association-accredited institution is required.
Experience with integrated library system(s), library administrative platform(s), and awareness about new/emerging trends in library technologies.
Essential Skills: Able to interact with variety of people including staff, faculty and/or students in a professional manner.
Intermediate or higher PC knowledge and skills; knowledge of PowerPoint, Excel and MS word in particular.
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, teamwork, time management and written/verbal communication skills required.
Knowledge of best practices in information literacy education, reference assistance services and development of library collections.
