At Stony Brook Medicine, the Stony Brook Cancer Center's IT Manager will provide IT support, application development, and integration of new and existing Stony Brook Cancer Center Systems. Responsibilities will include the complete IT management of SBCC databases and special projects, from development, creation, management, and oversight.
The IT Manager position is intended to manage and lend analysis and programming support to Stony Brook Cancer Center. Using specifications, code moderately complex programs applying programming standards, prepare test data, verify logic, document code, and develop production procedures and user manuals. Cooperate with the installation of programs into production for both new and existing programs. Responsible for business analysis, application design, programming, troubleshooting, problem resolution, maintenance, and documentation of applications, interfaces, and reports and selection, analysis, configuration, and maintenance of Software as a Service and/or hosted applications. S/he will collaborate with his/her colleagues in Stony Brook Medicine IT to ensure reliable and practical computer application delivery to the Cancer Center.
Duties of IT Manager for the Cancer Center may include but are not limited to the following:
Manage, develop, and implement new applications software, including:
Document existing business processes and application software.
Develop programming specifications for moderately complex applications or customization of existing applications or packages.
Design data models.
Create and develop application programs working from specifications.
Document the procedures to be used to run an application program.
Follow departmental procedures for promoting Software into software libraries.
Install software packages and make necessary updates.
Develop and document testing strategies, cases, and test scripts.
Modify and upgrade existing applications software, including:
Troubleshoot and debug malfunctions in complex applications programs.
Train lower-level personnel in changing, testing, and productionalizing less complex application programs.
Make changes to complex code, test program changes, and ensure that the proper steps are taken to install the production environment program.
Convert current programs and existing data from legacy systems to a new environment.
Write documentation of programming code, production procedures, and user manuals.
Write scripts to allow a complex series of programs to be run.
Analyze and test system upgrades.
Propose and implement modifications necessitated by changes in technology and vendor-supplied code.
Work with other programmers to evaluate systems including:
Provide background information to assist in the evaluation of administrative systems.
Consult with clients to analyze and understand the functions to be automated, client needs, objectives, desired features, and input and output requirements.
Design technical solutions from functional design specifications.
Analyze, define, and document system requirements for data, workflow, logical processes, hardware and operating
system environment, interface with other systems, internal and external checks, controls, and outputs.
Train users in accessing and utilizing their data.
Recommend new or modified standards and procedures.
Assure that applicable state and University policies and procedures are complied with when developing computer applications.
Provide support, direction, and technical guidance to lower level Programmer/Analysts and student assistants.
Advise management of potential breaches of data and systems security.
Provides individual support, application development, and integration for the following systems: SBCC websites, SharePoint, PRC Submissions site, REDCap, Forte OnCore, (includes system update/import and validation) SBCC Administration database.
Coordinates system development with internal and external stakeholders.
Other IT projects duties as needed at the direction of the Chief Research Information Officer and AD for Finance & Administration through SBM's project governance process.
Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
At least three years of IT management experience in an Academic Healthcare environment.
Two (2) years of experience in using relational database management systems and SQL (Structured Query Language) and XML.
Experience in gathering business requirements, analyzing problems, and formulating and designing solutions.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to configure software systems and applications to meet client requirements.
Ability to communicate clearly (both verbally and in writing).
Master's degree in a related field.
Experience in research, clinical trials, and/or administrative databases.
Experience working with Forte OnCore and REDCap. Ability to formulate programming code in more than one (1) programming language.
Experience in a fast-paced healthcare informatics environment.
Experience with working with Node.js and NoSQL.
Experience with UI design, CSS 3.0, JQuery, HTML5, JSON.
Experience in designing systems architectures and database schemas.
Experience in project management principles and using software development lifecycle such as Agile, Scrum, etc.
Experience using source control (TFS, Mercurial, Git, Perforce, SVN, etc.) and tracking tools such as Smartsheets, JIRA, Team Dynamix, etc.
Experience in developing data reporting systems using Tableau, Crystal Reports, etc.
