Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey is seeking a Nurse Anesthetist for the Department of Anesthesiology at the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
The primary purpose of the Nurse Anesthetist (Certified Registered) position is to administer anesthesia – related care in four general categories: (1) pre-anesthetic preparation and evaluation (2) anesthesia induction, maintenance and emergence, (3) post anesthesia care and (4) peri anesthetic and clinical support functions.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Performing and documenting a pre-anesthetic assessment and evaluation of the patient, including requesting consultations and diagnostic studies, selecting, obtaining, ordering or administering pre-anesthetic medications and fluids; and obtaining informed consent for anesthesia.
Develops and implements an anesthetic plan.
Selecting and initiating the planned anesthetic technique which may include: general regional and local anesthesia and intravenous sedation/monitored anesthesia care (MAC).
Selecting, obtaining, or administering the anesthetics, adjuvant drugs, accessory drugs, and fluids, necessary to manage the anesthetic, to maintain the patient's physiologic homeostasis, and to correct abnormal responses to the anesthesia or surgery.
Selecting, applying, or inserting appropriate non-invasive and invasive monitoring modalities for collecting and interpreting patient physiological data.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Graduate of an accredited Nurse Anesthesia Education Program with a Master's Degree in a related field; or graduation from a program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Education programs prior to January 1998.
Applicants currently enrolled in a Master's level Nurse Anesthesia Program will be considered but shall not practice as an Advanced Practice Nurse until successful completion of all requirements.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Sufficient sensory capacity to observe the patient and patient monitors.
Able to communicate effectively in both academic and health care settings.
Effective written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work in teams.
Possess demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment, and effectively function in the face of uncertainties inherent in clinical practice.
Ancillary privileges granted by medical staff must be successfully obtained upon hire.
