The College of Social Science is seeking a Unit Human Resources Coordinator to assist with the human resources functions, operations, and documentation in the Dean’s Office.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The College of Social Science has 12 academic units, 10 centers and programs, and 12 sub-units in the Dean’s office. The Unit Human Resources Coordinator will report to the Human Resources Manager in the Dean’s Budget and Personnel Office.
This position acts as first level contact for the College of Social Science Business Managers that need assistance with human resources questions related to policy or procedure; coordinates the Academic Specialist Review process for the college; coordinates the I-9 review process for the college; coordinates the no-pay mass update process for the college; coordinates the Performance Excellence process for the college; processes human resource and payroll forms for Faculty/Academic Staff, Support Staff, and Student employees; serves as a back-up reviewer and approver for human resource and payroll forms submitted by the College of Social Science units; serves as back up payroll time entry and time entry approver for the College of Social Science Dean’s office; serves as the coordinator of recruitment for Faculty/Academic Staff and Support Staff positions in the college; coordinates the UNTF Designation B process; coordinates the promotion process for Fixed Term Faculty; assists with the tenure system Reappointment, Promotion, and Tenure process in the Dean’s Office; assists with tracking new positions and documents routing for signatures; assists with the Dean’s Office electronic personnel files; identifies and coordinates support staff training; assists with other special projects as assigned.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in human resources; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in a human resources function or an area related to departmental operations; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
One to three years’ experience in supervision. Understanding of Michigan State University’s Business Procedures and Human Resources processes. Understanding of MSU’s Faculty/Academic Staff ranks, policies and procedures. Understanding of MSU’s Support Staff classifications, policies and procedures. Understanding of the following collective bargaining agreements: Clerical Technical Union, Administrative Professional Association, Administrative Professional Supervisors Association, and the Union for Nontenure-track Faculty. Excellent communication skills. Ability to review human resources issues with critical thinking and an inclusive approach. Ability to independently solve difficult situations and have crucial conversations. Ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities. Ability to recognize potential employment law violations to mitigate risk in human resources operations.
