Reporting directly to senior leaders in Field Operations team, the Lieutenant is able to effectively perform in any of the designated roles within Field Operations including but not limited to: Uniformed Services, Public Safety Events, and Community Response. This position is part of a management team that is responsible for ensuring campus safety on a day-to-day basis by proactively ensuring adequate officer staffing of fixed posts and mobile patrols, monitoring campus activities through communications with posted officers and video surveillance, and ensuring rapid, appropriate response to incidents consistent with University priorities for safety and security. This position supervises campus safety officers to carry out University safety and security policies and priorities consistent with standard operating procedures. This position provides oversight/coordination of contract security services at global sites. This position monitors reports from other NYU campuses, study-away sites or groups traveling abroad regarding safety/security needs, and implements response activities as directed and provides additional notice and communications as needed to ensure rapid, coordinated and professional response to ensure community safety. This position helps to ensure efficient, high quality safety operations that meet safety priorities within established financial parameters by analyzing campus activity statistics to ensure best use of officer resources in conjunction with established security technology (i.e. turnstiles, cameras, etc.). This position helps to ensure a high level of professionalism and readiness by reinforcing training programs and knowledge retention through ongoing training exercises. This position is one member of a global public safety organization, and as such, will work collaboratively in a mutually supportive way with all other members of the Public Safety team to ensure cohesive, holistic safety and security services that earn the confidence of the NYU community around the globe. This position may fill in for the Manager in his or her absence, carrying out his or her duties and responsibilities. Scheduled office hours subject to operational needs. This position may require working off peak schedules which may include evening, overnight and/or weekend hours
***Candidates can expect to work 2p-10p or 10p-6a with partial weekends off***
Required Education: Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Education: Master's degree.
Required Experience: 3-4 years of supervisory experience in security or law enforcement or equivalent combination of education or experience. Must possess a valid, unrestricted driver's license.
Preferred Experience: Private Security, Military, Law Enforcement or other operations experience.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Strong knowledge of supervisory practices and principles. Strong knowledge of standard security best practices and techniques. Ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively and to determine proper course of action on own initiative. Strong knowledge of security best practices and techniques, and federal, state, and local laws and ordinances, particularly the laws of arrest and evidence. Ability to obtain information through interview and interrogation and to deal firmly and courteously with the community and members of the general public under stressful conditions. Ability to plan work schedule, train and supervise staff. Must exhibit cultural sensitivity. Strong communication, interpersonal, and writing skills. Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with employees, University officials, and the public. Working knowledge of computer operations.Physical Requirements:Senior Supervisors may be exposed to the attendant discomfort or outdoor elements for prolonged periods of time in inclement weather conditions, including walking or standing for extended periods and climbing and descending stairs. Therefore, applicants must be in good health and must have and retain the physical strength, physical stamina, agility, and the visual and auditory acuity to perform the essential responsibilities of the position. Applicants also must have the ability to listen and communicate calmly, effectively, and courteously in both emergency and non-emergency situations. Domestic and international travel opportunities may exist but not anticipated to be required.Scheduled office hours subject to adjustment as needed to accommodate other time zones.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Extensive knowledge of higher education environment preferred. Familiarity with NYU University policies and procedures preferred.
