The Pediatric HIV/AIDS Cohort Study (PHACS) network conducts several longitudinal cohort studies investigating the long-term effects of exposure to HIV and ARV (antiretroviral) medications in infants, children, adolescents and young adults who were born to mothers living with HIV. The PHACS Data Resources and Scientific Administrative Cores (DRC and SAC) will provide leadership for the development and implementation of PHACS research protocols and analyses and will oversee study activities at 21 clinical research sites as well as multiple other contributing organizations.

The Pediatric to Adult Care Transition (PACT) Study is a study conducted with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health HIV/STD Surveillance Program to evaluate the feasibility of using state surveillance data to recruit a representative sample of young adults diagnosed with perinatal HIV-infection in Massachusetts, and assess their transition from pediatric or adolescent health care to adult health care. The PACT study is enrolling young adults living with perinatally diagnosed HIV residing throughout Massachusetts as well as providers who serve this population.

The Adolescent Master Protocol for Participants 18 Years of Age and Older-Lite (AMP Up Lite) is a PHACS study designed to define the impact of HIV infection and antiretroviral therapy (ART) on young adults living with perinatal HIV as they enter adulthood. It is recognized that this transition to adulthood is challenging, yet there is a dearth of information available to HIV care providers to inform their practices in this area. Study participants are young adults living with perinatally diagnosed HIV residing throughout the United States; a subset of this cohort is followed by staff at HSPH.

For both AMP Up Lite and PACT, research participation, including consent, enrollment, and data collection, is conducted online in order to accommodate the dynamic nature of the lives of this potentially stigmatized population while ensuring valid data collection.

We are seeking a team-oriented and enthusiastic Research Study Coordinator to join our dynamic team. This role will report to the AMP Up Lite and PACT Co-Chair, and will be primarily responsible for executing the AMP Up Lite and PACT study protocols. The position requires multi-tasking, attention to detail, adaptability, creative problem solving, maturity, empathy and a high regard for privacy.

Job duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Coordinating procedures related to recruitment, enrollment and tracking of study participants
  • Serve as liaison for potential participants who are not ready to enroll, helping them complete the pre-enrollment form or providing a point of contact for follow-up
  • Collaboratively work to create Memorandums of Understanding if sought by potential sites and facilitate their completion and execution
  • Serve as a resource to participants once they receive their survey activation email
  • Coordinating and carrying out the informed consent process and re-consent as necessary
  • Conducting medical record reviews as needed
  • Coordinating quality control for consent documents, data collection forms and medical record releases
  • Coordinating the completion of the online surveys
  • Serving as the primary point person for all communication between study participants, providers, researchers and administrators
  • Collaborating with the PI, Program Director, data manager and protocol specialist to maintain proper implementation of the study protocol and standard operating procedures
  • Coordinating with the Data Management Center to develop and maintain data collection instruments, remote consent documents, study reports, resources and answer data queries
  • Supporting regulatory compliance
  • Responsible for preparing all IRB submissions
  • Supporting the Health Education and Community Core (HECC) Director in updating and maintaining study participant website content
  • Maintaining and distributing local study recruitment materials
  • Coordinating regular team meetings, calls and presentations between the local AMP Up Lite and PACT study teams and collaborators
  • Performing other duties as required
PLEASE NOTE: This position has a term end date of 2 years from the date of hire.

PLEASE NOTE: The primary work location for this position is Boston, Massachusetts. Until our return to campus, which is still to-be-determined, this interview process and position will be conducted virtually – including virtual interviews, remote onboarding, and remote work. The remote nature of this position is only temporary. Local, on-campus work will be required once the School and this role return to an operational status that supports it.

  • 3+ years of related experience required; a combination of education and experience may be considered


  • Bachelor's Degree is strongly preferred
  • Experience with participant retention in the context of clinical research preferred
  • Experience with MS Office, including Excel and Access, preferred
  • Knowledge of regulations and direct experience working with highly sensitive and confidential information preferred
  • Experience and comfort working or interacting with young adults living with HIV or other individuals living with a stigmatized condition preferred
  • Interest working in a research, medical or public health setting strongly preferred
  • Strong attention to detail preferred
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) preferred
  • Works well independently and in teams preferred
  • Experience exercising attention to detail and multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment preferred
  • Strong community engagement skills with particular capacity to work with both providers and recipients of HIV clinical care and services preferred
