Summary: Performs a variety of direct and indirect patient care duties within the OMM clinic.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Welcome patients to the clinic.
Gather clinical information from the patient and other sources. Document clinical information in the patient’s electronic health record (EHR); including taking and recording patient vital signs, medications, allergies, histories, and other clinically relevant information.
Answer phones, take messages and follow-up on messages from patients, physicians and other staff members in a timely manner.
Call in medication prescriptions as directed by the physicians.
Administer medications as ordered by physicians.
Schedule appointments for referrals and other tests ordered by the physicians.
Obtain authorizations as needed.
Prepare patients and the exam room for procedures; draw up any needed medications for procedures. Assists physicians as needed. Documents accordingly.
Order supplies, stock rooms, manage laundry.
Maintain clinic exam rooms, equipment and instruments.
Route documents appropriately within the EHR; ensure paper documents are added to the patient record.
Schedule new and established patient appointments in our practice management system. Add insurance and demographic information. Update patient and demographic information when needed. Add incoming authorizations. Add case policies. Prepare charts as needed.
Cover the front desk when needed.
Perform other job-related duties and special projects as assigned.
Participate in and successfully complete all clinic and University required training including, but not limited to discrimination/harassment and code of conduct, BLS, Mandatory Reporting, Bloodborne Pathogens, etc.

Education and/or Experience: Graduate from a recognized medical assistant or nursing program, plus current license/certification (or have license/certification pending).

Essential Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Good typing and 10-key skills.
Proficient with computers.
Knowledge of medical terminology required.
Ability to work with a diverse population and provide excellent customer service to all.
Must be detail-oriented.

Able to perform under stress when confronted with critical or unusual situations.
