Employer Relations, Job Development & Outreach (60%)
Engages in dedicated outreach, developing industry contacts and formal or informal pipelines for student internships, mentorship, and professional career placement, across the very different graduate fields of specialization in our 3 MA programs.
Targets different employment sectors, for persons concentrating in computational methods, graduate economics, and international relations, to persons with strong research interests and professional backgrounds in anthropology, history, political science, psychology, and sociology.
Identifies and builds relationships strategically with state, regional, national, and international employers for recruitment of University students and alumni; Actively pursues and networks with various local, state, regional, and national organizations, including, but not limited to, chambers of commerce, societies of human resource management, state agencies such as U.S. Dept. of Labor and OPM, and professional associations.
Identifies and develops opportunities for large international student population (approx. 200 students) domestically and abroad.
Administers a modest travel budget, with a focus on city of Chicago alternatives, and some outreach to employment sectors in Washington D.C. and San Francisco.
Serves as consultant and liaison for and between employers and students.
Collaborates with designated University liaisons and program faculty to identify and increase employment opportunities for students; Participates in committees to co-organize career fairs and related events.
Contributes to strategic planning and goal setting, monthly and annual reports, etc.
Maintains up-to-date knowledge and information about social science career fields.
Special Event Planning & Coordination (20%)
Coordinates employer events (information sessions, mock interviews, coffee chats, job fairs) for the three programs; Provide event support and assist with coordination of annual career events (i.e. CIR Career Conference, MAPSS Career Conference, and MAPSS Academic Conference).
Contributes to the handling of event logistics including securing speakers, ordering and setting up catering, arranging for technical support, adhering to budgets, working with university schedulers, tracking participation and coordinating outcome assessment.
Marketing, Data Management & Administrative Support (20%)
Contributes to compilation of three program-focused weekly digests that highlight job opportunities and employer spotlights.
Participates in design and development of marketing material targeting employers, including website content.
Provides administrative and programmatic support as needed, research and data entry, and assistance with special projects.
Attends administrative staff meetings, participates in professional development activities, and represents the Office of Career Services in events on campus and in the community, some of which occurs on evenings and weekends.
Assists with collection of alumni and student placement data (including internships) for incorporation into University databases.
Manages employer outreach database and maintains log of communication via Career Services Online (College Central)
Conducts Career Interests Survey and compiles and analyzes data for consultation and workshop design.
Develops original content for career related publications and assists with the editing and distribution of Career Services communications materials
Conducts mock interviews, reviews resumes and cover letters, and coordinates other interview related programming in both individual and group settings.
Performs other related work as needed.
Master's degree in student affairs, human resource management, business, social sciences or a related discipline
1-3 years of experience in a corporate or university career services environment.
Experience in marketing, negotiation, and strategic planning.
Experience with college recruiting in higher education or business.
Must possess a dynamic, professional demeanor with exceptional organization, written and oral communication skills.
Ability to oversee multiple tasks with attention to detail required, as well as a motivated and enthusiastic work style.
Technical Knowledge or Skills
Technical knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and the willingness to learn other programs as needed.
