Job Summary: Under the supervision of the Director of the Student Office for Accessibility Resources, the Testing and Accessibility Coordinator is solely responsible for timely communication with all faculty and instructors regarding the coordination of tests/exams for students with documented disabilities, including learning disabilities, AD/HD, psychological disabilities, physical and health-related disabilities, and temporary accommodations.
The essential job functions are to oversee daily operations and coordinate the SOAR testing center which includes:
Testing using assistive technology (accessible tests, dictation software, text-to-speech software, and other require testing accommodations)
Greeting and checking in students
Securing the tests in advance of the scheduled test time
Communicating with students, faculty, and instructors on details of the test
Helping students submit their test reservations
Coordinates final exams including, but not limited to, reserving spaces, securing proctors, scheduling students, organizing exam materials, and working with faculty to reschedule exams for students.
Student support liaison that serves the wholistic needs of students referring them as necessary to appropriate units on campus, such as mentoring and advising, Counseling Center, Earle Student Health Center, Spiritual Life, Enrollment Services, Title IX and ADA, Academic Success, Student Life case management, Athletics, Housing and Residence Life, and academic departments.
Researches, orders, assigns, and individually tracks all requests for course materials that require conversion to accessible formats
Assists with the conversion of materials to alternative format including the preparation of books/documents for scanning and organized the electronic file structures
Responds to student and faculty disability related questions, scheduling testing appointments as requested within guidelines, ensure all forms and required paperwork are completed, and act as liaison between students and faculty.
Pursues professional development to keep pace with demands for services and information; including maintaining up-to-date information about the department, disability, higher education, and the university.
Completes performance review process with supervisor to understand job performance expectations and how they fit into the department, university goals and The Furman Advantage.
Transports students on accessible golf cart.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of the Student Office for Accessibility Resources in support of the goals and objectives of the Division of Student Life. Bachelor's degree required.
At least one-year's work experience in a related area.
Basic understanding of ADA and Section 504 as it relates to students with disabilities preferred.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to multi-task and consistently meet deadlines while handling information confidentially.
Professional, team-oriented individual with a positive attitude.
Strong knowledge of assistive technology, Microsoft Office Suite and willingness to embrace, utilize and master new technology.
Ability to positively interact with diverse groups of students, parents, faculty, and staff.
Flexible with scheduled work hours (typical hours are 8:00A- 4:30P, Monday-Friday with evenings as needed).
Work is performed under usual office conditions.
